Nigeria

in #nigeria7 years ago

Nigeria is located in Western part of Africa. Popularly know as the "Giant of Africa". Nigeria currently boast a population of over 180 million people(the largest in Africa).

Culture simply put can be said to be the way of life of a particular set of people.

It's how a group choose to live, talk, eat and relate with other people.

Identification

Tho it is thought and also there is archaeological evidence that societies have been living in Nigeria for more than 25 centuries. Nigeria was not formed until the British consolidated their colonial power over the area in 1914.

The name Nigeria was suggested by British journalist Flora Shaw in the 1890's.

Nigeria currently has more than 300 ethnic groups and tribes. The three largest and dominant ones are the Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.

Hausa

These are the people concentrated in the far north are the largest ethnic group in Nigeria.

The predominant religion here are the Muslims. They mostly engage in agriculture, commerce and small-scale industry.

The Hausa areas just like all northern places are mostly desert lands with the Fulanis the most predominant tribe in this region

The richest man in Africa is from here

While the current President of the country is from here also.

Igbo

These are of eastern Nigeria. The traditionally live in small, independent villages each with an elected council rather than a chief. The Igbos have a very rich culture and are know to be best business oriented group in the country.

Yoruba

These are the people of the south-western Nigeria. They incorporate seven subgroups, the Egbas, Ekiti, Ife, Ijebu, Okun(Kabba), Ondo and Oyo each identified with a particular paramount chief and city. The Ooni of Ife is the spiritual head of the Yorubas. There is a strong sense of Yoruba identity and the majority of Yorubas are educated farmers or traders who live in large cities of pre-colonial origin.

They are know to be very Diplomatic.

Other large ethnic groups include kanuri centered in Borno state; the Tive from the Benue Valley near Markurdi; the ibibio and Efik in the calabar area and many others.

Language

Most Nigerians speak two Languages(English Inclusive)

English is the countrys official language and it's the most spoken language in the country

The other predominant languages are the language of the other 3 tribes.

Religion

Islam,Christianity and indigenous religions are central to how Nigerians identity themselves.

It is estimated that 50 percent of Nigerians are Muslims, 40 percent Christains and the other 10 percent practice various indigenous religions.

Muslims can be found in all parts of Nigeria but they are mostly concentrated in the Northern part of the country. Christianity is more prevalent in the south.

Nigeria is a country with a very fun culture. It's a country with very friendly people and a very rich culture. You definitely want to visit this country.

Well done job bro

Nigeria is truly a land of opportunities and giant of Africa

Good people great nation

Thanks for sharing

Yes o we truly are
Hopefully our potential for great things would begin to manifest more than ever
I have a lot of hope for this country

Well that estimated number of Christians and Muslims might not be true as at today. The last census was manipulated by removing tribe and religion.

Great post though.

Yeah I had doubts about that too
The last census showed the north had way more people than the rest of the nation I guess that was probably the reason. Which I actually doubt is true bcus the population in Lagos alone is pretty alarming.

Thanks mate

I want to visit that place one day

we would love you coming

I would like to know more about their commerce. Items they trade between each other, as individuals or groups.

Okay no problem
Since you asked I would do you a post about that
Maybe this weekend

I really enjoyed reading this and learning about Nigeria without information overload this was a perfect amount of info for someone like me with short attention and has never been to Africa.
