Nigeria @58: God bless and heal our land.

A wonderful day to all my friends and to my fellow Nigerians I say happy Independence Day to you.

Today Nigerians all over the world celebrates her 58years of Independence and even those who wishes not to celebrate will always acknowledge this day.

I was one of those of the opinion that we have nothing to celebrate in Nigeria today, so it is very funny that I am actually writing about it now.

I have been looking for a reason to rejoice with Nigeria but it seems I go blank even when I try harder, the environment is not even helping out here.
I remember vividly how 1st of October was viewed in the past, how everywhere was filled with happy cheers and pupils/students feel very excited because of the matchpast they are going to participate in.

Today facebook reminded me of a post I made 6years ago, where I said "I love my country no matter what"
I wish i can say the same now, funny enough many states decided to choose today of all days to conduct their primary elections, elections that we all know comes with violence some times.

I was not happy with the situation of this country until I heard our national anthem and with deep reflection I felt a little hope, so despite everything going on right now I say loudly today to my Compatriots "THERE IS HOPE, NIGERIA WILL BE GREAT AGAIN".

So in the spirit of our independence celebration let's push the ugly thoughts we have about our country aside and still pledge our loyalty to our country and meditate deeply to it's words by reciting our anthem and pledge.

Arise, O compatriots Nigeria's call obey to serve our fatherland with love and strength and faith. The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain, to serve with heart and might one nation bound in freedom Peace and unity.

Oh God of creation,
direct our noble cause
Guide thou our leaders right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace
And justice shall reign.

THE PLEDGE

I pledge to Nigeria my country,
To be faithful, Loyal and honest,
To serve Nigerian with all my strength,
To defend her unity
and uphold her honor and glory,
So help me God.

God bless and heal our land.
Long live Nigeria.
