Nigerian Jollof Rice Declared Best In Washington DC Jollof Festival

So while on the internet today, and while dealing with an apparent state of hunger, I came across an interesting story regarding a revered Nigerian delicacy; NIGERIAN JOLLOF RICE.

One look at the picture of the yummy-looking dish, made my stomach crave for the dish and also made me even prouder of Africa delicacies.

Just last month, July 2nd 2017, Ms. Atinuke Ogunsalu of the Queensway Restaurant and Catering located in Maryland, USA, emerged the winner of the Jollof Hackathon organized by Afropolitan Insights and presented by I/O Spaces.

The delicious Nigerian Jollof rice was declared the best in a first ever Jollof festival held in Washington DC, United States.

The organizing body, Afropolitan Insights is a fusion and collective of young Africans, African-Americans and Carribeans from Africa and those is the diaspora. The organizing body is responsible for curating events, creating opportunities for celebrating diversity, innovation and ideas along with social dialogue and cultural exchange.

According to the winning chef, Ms. Atinuke, she arrived at the event with high hopes despite the heavy opposition she faced from representatives of countries like Ghana, Cameroun and Sierra Leone.

Some assertions have been made that Nigerian made Jollof rice is nothing to write home about, but young Ms. Atinuke Ogunsalu, blew everyone away, with her evidently tasty and well-garnished Jollof rice.

About 600 guests at the event had expected the Ghana Jollof rice to be crowned the winner, but the Ghana Jollof team was beaten by the clock, and Nigeria emerged champions.

The event was the first ever, which was part of the Jollof festival held in Washington DC, USA.

Cameroun, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone were competitors at the event, but Ms. Ogunsalu was able to prove to all and sundry that Nigerians are specialists indeed, in the preparation of Jollof rice, when she secured the win for her country Nigeria at the event.

The final contestants were given five minutes to showcase their various dishes to the Judges. The judges carried out their decisions based on taste, originality and participants’ presentation.

Ms. Ogunsalu, the newly crowned # JollofFestival champion walked away with a price of $1000 USD and a partnership deal with event planner I/O Spaces in a co-working capacity. She was also awarded an added opportunity to become a professional Chef at Jollof Caviar, which is an upscale African Fusion Restaurant to be opened in 2019, in Washington DC, USA.

If you have never had a taste of the Nigerian Jollof rice, you are really missing out indeed. Wherever you may be and whoever you are, make it a point of duty, infact make it a life-goal (lolz), to have a plate of this sumptuous delicacy and you will never regret it.

Ok, would do. Thanks!

I have some very dear friends from Nigeria and yes I have had the rice. In fact it is one of my favorite dishes and a rare treat when we are guests in their home. Sometimes it can be a little spicy for me but always so good.
