Happy independence Day - Flash Fiction

in #nigeria6 years ago (edited)

Ade woke up to a very light shower.

He struggled to rise up from bed, he just had a bad dream which he chose to ignore.

The nightmares have been lining up for days now.

As usual, he turned to the left of his bed where his phone is plugged to check for updates: calls, social media updates, texts and the likes.

There were no calls, no one calls him really, except his mum. He slid into his status page on whatsapp and right there, it felt like a green and white carnival, everybody either had a picture of nigeria flag 🇳🇬 or a text celebrating the Independence day.

"Oh, its October 1st.". He thought to himself.

The year is ending again, he has a lot of bills raising their gray heads at him: rents and the likes. He still has a lot to do for himself, hope seems inexistent except through the faith he has been fighting to hold.

"Thank God for Steem". He thought to himself. "How would I have been paying my bills, useless Nation".
