After living on Genesis3, with its constant storms, and dark skies, Jack Steel found a great sense of relief with the familiar Common Atmosphere of Genesis5. Now he slept soundly at night, and awoke to bright rays of golden light filling his quarters,reminding him of the old days on Genesis1! The Chief insisted that Jack rest, and allow Vice Admiral Maxwell to handle the daily running of the Genesis Starfleet. With a few herbs and vitamins, and some relaxing green tea, Admiral Steel managed to overcome the daunting insomnia that plagued him through the midnight hours and on until the break of dawn.
The news that Jack was being fully embraced by all of the other colonies also helped a great deal, and gave him the motivation to look optimistically and enthusiastically towards the future. As he rose from his bed and made his way to the bathroom to freshen up, he stopped in front of the window for a moment to enjoy the warmth of the rising sun; a sight he had all but forgotten on Genesis3! Today was going to be a day of mystery and enlightenment, as Jack could not wait to go hang out with the Chief, and soak up all of that mesmerizing geek talk! Although Admiral Steel had assigned his mentor to the rank of Commodore, deep down, Mr. Brady would always remain in his heart of hearts, a Chief Science Officer, who spends more time at the Research Center with his science team, than at the Control Room with the other Gold Tier Officers.
So what do you have for me today, Chief?! Jack said brightly as he strolled happily into the Research Center.
- Admiral Steel, good morning. So glad you could join me. Do I have some fascinating news for you!
I was counting on it!
- Computer, load the Project NextColony files...
- Computer, bring on screen the updated STARDUST files.
What's happening with the STARDUST, Chief?
- A lot! Computer, next file please...
That's Ambassador Deliah' from the Planet Cruq’al.
- I see you've done your homework, Mr. Steel. Yes, he is the Head of the Interstellar Research Community, and his team has developed a rudimentary from of warp speed technology that allows for the instant transferring of ships from across the galaxy to any Alpha Planet, provided we have enough STARDUST to cover the transaction.
In other words, we can buy ships and have them instantly delivered to Genesis1?!
- Exactly! But not just buy, we can also sell any of our ships in the Starfleet and receive STARDUST.
Is this actually functional, or are they still working on it?
- Computer, next file please...
The Tellusian Ambassador! I should have known he'd be involved; those Leonids are always mixed up in finances.
- Very impressive, son, you're really surprising me today.
Well, the credit goes to my Vice Admiral Maxwell who spent hours with me going over the Project NextColony files. So what does Ambassador Baljar have to do with all this?
- Being the Head of the Interstellar Financial Supervision Committee, Mr. Gioquis Baljar joined forces with Ambassador Deliah' and put together a very basic galactic market with STARDUST as the medium of exchange. Not only can we buy and sell ships, but we can also grab some planets and blueprints.
Planets?!
- That's correct Admiral Steel, in fact, I've already taken the liberty of grabbing one to add to your collection.
You're joking, right?!
- Of course not! Computer, load Starbase Genesis777...
That looks like a Common Coal Planet.
- Indeed it is; like our neighbor Starbase Genesis7.
Where is it, Chief?
- In the Alpha Ring, Quadrant 1/0. Coordinates 148/41.
I can't believe this; this is great news, Chief!
- It most certainly is! And to add to our excitement, Commodore Onay discovered another planet in his Epsilon Quadrant -1/-5 and is building Starbase Genesis996 as we speak!
Oh, this is too much, Chief! I need a break!
- Fair enough, my boy; let's sit down to a nice warm cup of green tea and await the arrival of Vice Admiral Maxwell, who should be with us shortly.
