I think there are only two metrics that matter for steemit and that is price and traffic. Unfortunately we are going down in both since the hardfork. Look at our Alexa rating.

The problem is downvotes and too much concentration of power. I've moved to steem engine sites myself.
I would agree that there is not a huge pickup on steemit.com but if you take the ecosystem as a whole, there are more users and traffic.
Concerning the tribes, I believe most of them to be useless except get free money to sell to buy steem. Only one of them has a great potential I believe and it is @dporn because it should be separate to Steemit. But steemleo or palnet ? What do they bring to the table now that bots are less useful on Steemit and curation is the same?
It is like BTC and BTC gold, diamond...

If you take Steemit.com traffic is stable at best but if you take all the dapps and other front end, we are gaining views !
I wrote you a long answer and it got deleted... I am pissed 😂.
Basically communities are like BTC HF to me and people sell them to buy more steem I believe (at least I do that).
Only what tribe has great potential in my opinion: @dporn as it cannot be curated and on the same platform as other content.
Even if we disagree, it does not prevent me from upvoting you 🙌
