Algorithmic Echo Chambers, echo chamber, echo cham..beer beer beer beer beer...

in #newsteem5 years ago (edited)

Well, today is friday. Basically at the end of it. And as the saying goes: "Thanks God it's friday" right? We are again at the verge of a new relaxed and well deserved weekend. :)

And with tons of relaxation. I assume we are also ready for great 'content' consumption. Yeah! on the steem blockchain too. Why not?

Hence, with so much lazy free time in our hands and plentiful of leisured relaxation during this weekend. I bet you will be also willing to finally, for once in a lifetime, READ & 'CURATE' something avidly and thoroughly in an organically and CONSCIOUS way right? Yep! I bet you will. Not.

After all. At the end of the day...

Anyone who uses the internet has experienced filtering of information. Obviously, due to the massive amounts of material online that it is always necessary to refine what we see. What we watch. What we hear. What we READ. What we consume. What we drink. What we chew. What we digest. What we 'curate' & resteem and all this inevitable filtering of information, which at first glance, is not a big problem for you.

Would you reckon it should be a problem?

«-Confirmation Bias-»

Yeah! algorithms are biased. Didn't you know?

And these biased algorithms usually don’t show content that disagrees with the user. Filter bubbles, also known as echo chambers pretty much has already been designed beforehand for the right consumption of your sophisticated and refinated palate.

“Your filter bubble is your own personal and mostly unique universe of information that you live in online"

And what’s in your filter bubble depends on who you are, and it depends on what you do. But the thing is that you don’t decide what gets in. And more importantly, you don’t actually see what gets edited out.

Yep, algorithms use to create filter bubbles that are affecting 'our society' and that they will bring negative effects if we don’t code the algorithms with a minimal sense of civic responsibility.

While it is true that filter bubbles are a problem, algorithms don’t explain everything. Filter bubbles are an issue of human nature. They feed into the worst part of our human weaknesses because we don’t want our ideas to be challenged.

To understand how filter bubbles are created, it is of utmost importance to truly understand how algorithms work. Because although they aren’t the sole cause, algorithms do play a fundamental role. Algorithms are largely complex computer codes that decide how 'relevant' information is to each individual. But the overall goal is to filter out information based on what it thinks you will be interested in.

Adaptation

By the way. Do you know what "Cicadidae" means? ¿Nope? Well, then don't worry and just Click on the previous image or on its green title. I guarantee you that this strange term or concept is nothing much esoteric or far away outta this world as to scare you till the bones.

Didn't you know most of the pictures and green texts on my posts will always lead you to get and consume more juicy content and information to chew, process and digest? Yeah, always check em all.

Cicadidaes are just some little living entities which are accustomed to live underground from two until sixteen years in a row before bloom out to the surface of the earth. So that everyone notices their living presence in this world through their shrill short-lived chants and songs.

And in view of the recent decline on readership, reduction of engagement & interaction and some sort of degression or plain lack of rewards in our content throughout the steem blockchain. Maybe because these very same algorithmic filters, of which I've been talking about before and which you can bet these indeed create plenty of Echo Chambers everywhere.

I really wanted to also bring to your amiable attention this alien Cicadidae subject through some kind of appetizing clickbait. So you know and begin to be aware of the next phase and survival cycle in our ecosystem.

«-ADAPTATION

Adaptation, is a word often used in conjunction to many, multiple & very diverse changes and variations through different scenarios as a natural response to them. But it is indeed something that society has always done before over many centuries ago.

Yeah, nothing new here so far.

So, adapting to (any) change means adapting the way we do things, in all areas of our lives, to respond to the changing circumstances. It means not only protecting us against negative impacts, but also making us better, able to take advantage of any benefits.

Then, what's gonna be your algorithm?

¡Happy Weekend!

Your illustrations always make me laugh.

But the depth of content you handle in your exhibitions is wonderful. That really made me think.

You must do a second part explaining how to combat this control tools.

pd: at least you have shown us that we don't have free albeldrio on the haha network.

The first picture is so damn cool. Do you know if this is free from rights, as I love to change the wording to English.
