French 'Yellow Vests' Push For Anarchistic Evolution? Referendum Initiated by Citizens?

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Following on from my recent post examining what might be the objectives of the many 1000s of people in France rioting and fighting for change there - I have found a video from an articulate speaker there calling for self sovereignty and what amounts to coming close to principles of anarchy.

While his organisation is aiming for the ability of individual people to somehow initiate referendums from their own actions, rather than depending on 'representatives' and while this appears to still involve a reliance on state hierarchy to some extent - it is still clear that he is speaking towards a direction that results in actual balance and an ending of power domination. This is clearly about a great deal more than just 'fuel tax'!

Wishing you well,

He's absolutely correct. We are powerless in the face of government. We need to drop all the left/right nonsense and realise that we're all on the same side, which is against the state's abuse of power. It's very clear from the disgusting treatment we see in the video being meted out to the protesters by the police exactly what those in power think of the citizen.

@deirdyweirdy Totally agree the left/right paradigm is nonsense and that we need to unite against the state's abuse of power, but we are not powerless in the face of government. That is the lie they want us to believe to keep us enslaved. We may feel powerless in the face of government alone, but the power of the people united as one against the government or any other tyranny is the most powerful force in the world. It's why the MSM spends day & night keeping Americans distracted & divided. The people don't realize their true power.

I totally agree with you and that's what I was trying to say in my less than articulate way. We are powerless because we don't stand together. If we could just forget all the nonsense that we've been persuaded divides us and realise that we are all of us enslaved, we could likely change things very quickly.

hehe :) My bad... You're so right! You might find the following video interesting, regarding the power & ability of just 1 dissenting voice to influence & empower a good percentage of the people around us who, until that 1 voice broke the silence, felt entirely powerless. Even when we are seemingly all alone, just 1 voice or 1 single act of dissent has the potential to be far more powerful than we perceive in breaking people out of the herd/crowd mentality, and this has been demonstrated in scientific studies. I found the topic very interesting, feel free to check the video out, it's by Black Pilled YT channel:

Have a great weekend!

@deirdyweirdy
Totally agree, the left/right nonsense is the first thing we need to change. I chat with a lot of so called "intelligent" people about politics and they are trapped in the left/right paradigm.

I feel it's worth the effort to try and break people free from this one thing, if everyone did this, we will start getting somewhere.

I feel it's important to re-member that 'government' is only an idea that has been perpetuated through enough people with enough resources to mean that it has taken on an intimidating form. Step one is understanding what inTIMIDation actually is and healing our fears there. Once we are feeling grounded it is possible to take the necessary steps to improve life peacefully. We are not powerless in the face of government, we are powerless in the face of denial. That said, many in governments may view us as powerless and that is part of what allows such exploitation. I personally do not see any possible solution here as long as artificial hierarchy is allowed to continue.

I heard about the yellow vest at work @ura-soul wasn't sure what it was about now I understand. Oh man what a mess and the things being seen in the video are hard to watch. There's alot that Roman says in this video but it sounds like they aren't happy that their representatives don't listen or care for what the French citizens want, they don't want leaders making decisions and destroying our planet using our resources like tax, time etc. We are slaves powerless to the governments losing our souls and way of thinking, they want those who are leaders to be more responsible.

personally, i recommend that we don't have leaders at all - we need personal empowerment now. i'll be giving a couple of live streamed videos on this over the weekend as part of an event organised by https://thebasesproject.org.. I should make a post to announce that. ;)

"We don't want rulers, we want to be sovereign." Powerful words, great video, keep it up Yellow Vests, give em' hell. Awesome post @ura-soul - thanks for sharing!

This is definitely about more than gas tax. Luke from We Are Change did a video interview with a local in Paris last weekend during his coverage of the protests, and as the anonymous source explained it is indeed about much more than the gas tax, more than just Macron even, but about 40 years of the "banking sector taking over the country" among other things. The people are tired of not having a voice and of the rich getting richer at the expense of the poor and middle class getting poorer. It seems to be a true popular revolt against the oppression of the global banking elite and their puppet Macron... Interview below:

Hopefully the movement does not become co-opted by controlled opposition.

Is he making a statement of the principles of anarchy? I think yes and no.

Yes, it is in as much as his statements are calling for self-governance by the citizens; but, no, in as much as anarchy isn't really sustainable.

Rather I see this as a call for the establishment of a government that is subservient to the citizens under its rule by design. A government that can be, and often will be, destroyed by its people and rebuilt. A government whose only purpose is to protect the citizens from external threats, leaving them free to interact according to their own will.

My perspective, which I am certain is heavily biased by my life as an American with anarchist leanings, is that the nearest we can get to a sustainable anarchy, is through the establishment of a republic that creates, by design, a weak central government. (Sadly, such a republic only remains free so long as the citizens chose to remain so.)

I'm not certain what is going to come from this movement, but I hope for all those on the street that they achieve self-rule.

Yes, he is not calling for true anarchy and I don't know how much he even knows about it. Having participated in a few anarchy groups online for quite a while, it has become clear to me that most people who call themselves anarchists actually don't really understand what it really is in it's deepest form... So I am not surprised that more people don't fully support it or think it is possible or sustainable.

The deceivingly simple description for anarchy is 'no rulers' - not 'no rules', but simply that there will be no overpowering of one by another. The part that is usually missed is that once someone seeks to overpower another - whether deliberately or not - anarchy no longer exists.. So it is not that anarchy automatically results in violence, but that once violence begins, anarchy has ended.

I understand what you are pointing to with regards the sustainability, in that people often do resort to violence and overpowering.. However, any form of government is also a form of overpowering - so cannot be superior to anarchy. The only solution then, that can work, is if all those who wish to survive on Earth voluntarily choose to increase understanding and awareness and balance, such that they are empowered and can help others to be empowered enough to never resort to such barbarism as would end anarchy.

I'm planning to read John Locke's "Two Treatises of Government" this January. I'm hoping that this will give me a better understanding and language to discuss this topic. I know the type of government I would like to live in, and I'm certain that wiser people than I have already written extensively on the topic.

Great ok - I haven't read much anarchist writing, only enough to know that I agree with many of the original thinkers on key issues.

he does have a few hundred thousand views on facebook - but facebook have turned off commenting on it!

I have been following and reposting facebook posts on the yellow jackets that apparently has spread through various European countries. I hope this movement witll continue and expand.

The planet is in a process of purging, we would be wise to listen to her!

So well said! France have always stood up to their right unlike many countries I stand with them, although I don't thins revolution is not the way but desperate times call for desperate measures. I have this spreads and plants a seeds to a bigger movement! 💯🐒

Are we witnessing a reborn May 1968 in France? We don't know yet. I say this since progressive movements come and go and see no results at all for solving the main topics that hunt us around the world. But with this "Yellow Vest" activists we're seeing something different: is the people who are in charge no middlemen from traditional parties. Macron seems to loosen a little bit his grip by giving some concessions. We'll see...
