Google pays homage to first Indian female photojournalist.
Google honored first Indian female photojournalist Homai Vyarawalla by Doodle. Homai Vyarawalla had captured various important events in the first three decades of Independent India.
Homai Vyarawalla was born on 9th December 1913 in Navsari, Gujarat. She belonged to a middle-class Parsi family she was married to Manekshaw Jamshetji Vyarawalla, She learned photography from a friend and when she shifted to Delhi she started photography for journalism. She captured many important events in the freedom struggle and in the first three decades of Independent India. After the death of her husband, she gave up photography as she did not wish to work with paparazzi culture. She was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2011. After the death of her son in 1989, she lived alone in a small apartment in Baroda. She had a minor accident and while undergoing the treatment she passed away on 15 January 2012.
