Your point about good feelings is key here. Just as with addictions to drugs, sex, tv and all else - we are generally actually just trying to feel better. The only charity I have donated to in the last 20 years is the Uchira Children's fund in Tanzania which is run by a British guy who posts videos every day showing what he's been up to and who he is helping.. What he has done is literally miraculous and so actually solving this could be as simple as engaging the groups via social media and not supporting the ones that are clearly corporate inspired rather than heart inspired/inspiring.

You are so right...and a lot of these charities play on the feelings thing....there are a lot of con artists out there!

Great, yes - that's surely the best option!
The other great thing with video coverage is that we can actually learn about the situation (remotely) first hand. It is still possible to mislead people through video, but it is very difficult and basically pointless to do that and also put out several per week and share your heart with the people - as we will know who is lying.
