OKay....you should have the author's permission...that is my natural, instinctual conclusion...but the author should understand they are giving implied consent when posting to the internet, without taking precautions against the spread of the their content. As long as an author's content is identified as theirs within the alt text, I see no harm done to re-posting it, as long as due credit is given. :D Yeah @williambanks?
Well you're close anyways. A link actually IS a direct citation and infact it's the most pure form since it is embedded directly in the context, rather than requiring a footnote. That was pretty much the entire intent behind the hypertext concept. It's also the reason why broken links are so damned annoying. :D @robyneggs
