Passwords To Be A Thing Of The Past?

In April 2017, according to Cybersecurity Ventures it was reported that 3.8 billion people were using the internet which is around 51% of the entire population, with a prediction of users increasing to 6 billion by 2022 , which is ALOT of passwords being stored/remembered.
Unfortunately not many people use a secure password and once you lose access to your password, it can be a daunting task of trying to recover your account.

So to take the dreaded fear of forgetting your password,or shuffling through those notes to find the right password you need...in comes Trusona.

In June 2017, Microsoft Ventures led a $10 million Series B round for Scottsdale-based identity management tech startup Trusona.

Trusona is one of the global leaders in identity authentication.
They state their mission is to eliminate passwords which they claim are the weakest link when it comes to cybersecurity, and for those who have an extensive amount of passwords jotted down on paper or encrypted on a USB this seems like an intriguing idea.

Before commercial use, Trusona was created to be used by the CIA to legitimately verify contact with Intel operatives in various parts of the world. This tech savvy advantage ensured that the CIA could receive data from field agents ensuring the Intel they received was without doubt sent from their agent, and all this could be done using an Iphone.

Trusona identity proofs users one time to become TruUsers.
Then, on every use of Trusona, the user's dynamic credentials and Trusona's patent pending anti-replay runs behind the scenes to ensure the user is who they say they are.
The app would also require a PIN or Touch ID to access and use the software.

Now you may have heard of Frank Abagnale, if you haven't, then you may know or have watched the film
'Catch Me If You Can', which is based on his life.

Mr Abagnale went from one of the world’s most notorious con men to an international cyber-security expert trusted by the FBI.
He has a deep understanding of the evolving security landscape and is now an adviser for bringing this technology to commercial use.

He recently done a Google Talk where he talks about his life, Trusona, and his thoughts on technology in the next five years near - Its worth a listen.

Also just recentley, The National Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (NH-ISAC) announced a partnership with Trusona whilst urging other public sectors to follow their lead.
NH-ISAC Announcement
plus it is believed that Microsoft intend to integrate Trusona for all their gaming/streaming platforms in the near future.

The Trusona software is available from the App Store or Google Play Store.
There is also an official Wordpress plugin - Trusona WordPress Plugin,

However pre-registration is required and Trusona’s 'NoPasswords' login is only available through organisations that have adopted their solution.

My Thoughts

Most users of the internet would agree that technology is advancing at a rapid pace, and when it comes to cyber-security...securing your identity is a MUST. I believe it will take a while for the complete deletion of passwords and this next step of security will certainly bring some trust issues and suspicious paranoia to the table.
