South Korean automaker Renault Samsung Motors has presented an updated version of its electric sedan SM3 ZE, which is a local version of the European model Renault Fluence. The novelty retained the previous design, but it received a more capacious battery of 36 kWh (the previous version used a 22 kWh battery), which allowed it to increase its power reserve by 57% - to 213 km (132 miles) in the Korean cycle.
The most interesting thing is that the growth in the volume of the battery did not lead to an increase in the weight of the electric vehicle, the new modification weighs exactly the same as the original version of the Renault Samsung SM3 ZE weighs at the time of the announcement in 2013. The cost of a car in South Korea is $ 38 thousand, but thanks to tax discounts, purchase can be cheaper.
According to the Korean transport agency Korean Transportation Safety Authority, the average trip of a resident of South Korea takes only 40 km per day. Using these data, the automaker stated that the renewed electric vehicle will be able to drive 5 days (that is, a full working week) from one battery charge.
Note that the production of the basic model Renault Fluence in Europe was completed as early as 2016, but the local version in gasoline and electric versions is still produced in Chile and South Korea. Moreover, Renault Samsung SM3 ZE is actively used by various organizations - in April last year 1200 electric vehicles were purchased by the Korean Ministry of Health, and this model is very popular in the taxi services of Seoul, Daegu and Jeju.
Note that the auto experts associate such an update of the battery with the increasing competition from the new Korean and Japanese models, (Hyundai Ioniq Electric and Nissan Leaf), not to mention a new generation of American, European and Chinese manufacturers that promise a range of 500 km and above .

I'm really excited by this technology , I would never consider buying a petrol vehicle , ever (maybe carry a petrol genny in the back if I want to get off the beaten track )
