New button coming on Facebook [The fake news fight]

There were rumors for the last decade, But it looks like Facebook is serious about creating the opposite of the famour "LIKE" button; a negative voting button. It's not going to be called "I don't like it" or "Dislike" button. Its main target is to mark out negative comments and posts or those which are disrespectful.


This is what is being propagated by the UK Media. Last February, Mark Zuckerberg tested this "new button" in the US among 5% of Android users. It's now up in New Zealand and even Australia but there isn't any official release date. A year ago, Similar features were developed for Messenger App.


It won't be a thumb down button; Instead, it would be a double button with 2 arrows one pointing up and the other pointing down next to the "Like" and "Comment" Buttons. It would be similar to Steemit where you can "Upvote" or "Downvote" a content.. This way, we can promote best contents anonymously, resulting in Facebook having the information about a post with the worst reception on the community. Using this technique similar to Reddit, Facebook will promote popular contents and give less visibility to irrelevant contents..

What is expected from us? Stop Fake News!

This will not only monitor comments/ contents on Facebook, but the platform will use this method to demote fake news and know which content is most annoying to users. What's good is that the users themselves would alert with their votes which content is inappropriate..


Mark Zuckerberg confessed before about the project of implementing a "Dislike" button is time consuming for the company and they needed to invent the concept it would represent and its job.


He said: "We did not want to create the 'Dislike' button because we do not want to turn Facebook into a forum where people vote positively or negatively on others' posts. That does not look like the kind of community we want to create."
