More Yemenis Slaughtered as Saudi Coalition Intensifies Hodeida Offensive Amidst Total Siege of the Port City, in Wake of Public Outcry Against US/Saudi War Crimes in Yemen

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Mounting public outrage of US-backed Saudi war crimes has not slowed the coalition's genocide on Yemen: US Congress rejects measure to defund the slaughter of Yemeni children, as Saudi offensive to take strategic port city of Hodeida intensifies with total siege & slaughter of more civilians in attempt to pressure Yemen resistance, but Houthis are not giving up & continue to carry out successful attacks against Saudi invaders.

Following the mainstream media CNN coverage of US supplied guided bomb responsible for the slaughter of 40 young children in Yemen in recent school bus bombing, public outrage at US support of Saudi war crimes and genocide of Yemenis intensified, but has not slowed the western war machine.

A measure introduced by U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) which intended to "cut off funding of Saudi bombing campaign" responsible for the slaughter of Yemeni children was rejected by the Senate on Wednesday.

“The fact of the matter is the majority of the civilian casualties are caused by the side that we are supporting,” the Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy said.

This refusal to consider defunding the murderous Saudi Kingdom comes in the wake of a new military siege and intensified Saudi offensive against the strategic western port city of Hodeida. On Sunday, at least 12 Yemeni fishermen off the coast of Hodeida were slaughtered by Saudi attacks launched from both warships and airstrikes. As of Tuesday, the civilian population was trapped and under heavy attack, with nowhere to flee as attack helicopters, warplanes, and rocket attacks pummeled civilian population centers.

Eyewitness accounts as published by MintPress News:

“We are trapped in our houses, we can not move anywhere, the city is being constantly targeted by airstrikes, rocket attacks, and artillery without discrimination,” 50-year-old Ali Qassem al Dreihemi said to MintPress in a phone call. “There are some people who have bled to death in the street, and no one dared to help them because of airstrikes that target passers-by, paramedics, and fleeing civilians on purpose; some corpses have decayed.”
...
The Ministry of Public Health and Population said in a statement to MintPress:
"Dozens were killed and wounded, mostly children, women and the elderly. The coalition has also imposed a land and air siege on the city. It has been preventing the citizens’ cars and ambulances from transferring the wounded to Hodeida’s hospitals.”

At the same time, the people of Yemen are being economically crushed by a Yemen currency crash being orchestrated by intentional Saudi policies meant to suffocate the Yemeni resistance, but is instead largely affecting the civilian population's ability to afford basic necessities like food, contributing to the ongoing Saudi genocide on Yemen.

Despite all of this, the Houthis (popular Yemen resistance fighters) have not given up, and continue to successfully battle the imperial US-backed Saudi coalition invading forces. On Tuesday, the Houthis successfully recaptured several positions in northern Yemen in rapid attack, killing several coalition fighters and destroying 10 coalition vehicles, several of which "were identified by experts as US-made Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicles," according to South Front.

It appears that so far the recent public pressure and outrage against US war crimes in Yemen has done little to slow this evil war machine, and the U.S. Senate's refusal to consider ceasing funding to the murderous Saudi Kingdom is likely due mainly to greed and oil. This is surely the reason so many U.S. leaders refuse to condemn Yemen genocide while continuing to hail Saudi Arabia as an important "strategic partner in the region."

As @johnvibes pointed out in an article posted on Steemit just today (Thursday), there is plenty of evidence that the Saudi Kingdom's reckless war on Yemen is all about oil, and the U.S. government's seemingly blind support of the coalition's war efforts and related genocide in Yemen is likely a matter of 'protecting' U.S. oil interests in the region.

Sadly, there are a minority of people in the upper levels of government and certain corporations which love money and power more than humanity, and this is the root problem causing this insanity. The people are waking up to the truth of this geopolitical madness, and now is the time to put pressure wherever we can to demand an end to this murderous foreign policy of death and destruction. There is no amount of oil or war profiteering which can ever justify the slaughter of children anywhere in the world, and it is time America recognizes that human life has more value than any amount of power, money, oil, or geopolitical control of a region. It is time to denounce greed and power in favor of humanity, and human life. Until we as a society do this, the madness and the slaughter will surely continue.
