Reaction: @newsagg Headlines Jan-16-2018 - Thoughts and Impressions I had while aggregating the news

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Now I've been putting together the headlines posts for @newsagg since I created that account. I've often been inspired to write a post here based upon thoughts I had while putting that post together. It can be an idea generator if I have time and allow it to happen. In fact, I can have many ideas and often forget them before I get around to writing my own post. I "try" to keep my bias off of the @newsagg account. If I want to express my opinion then this is where I should do that. Several times I've thought as I was putting together a headlines news aggregation post that I should do a post of my thoughts as I put those together. I have never done it before, until now.

Today's @newsagg post is HEADLINES: Tuesday, January 16th, 2018 - Is Trump Racist for something he said or didn't say about countries(not people), Trump Promises Kept - Yet Perceptions Vary, EOS, 'Literal' Pork Import Ban From Mexico Lifted, Petro Coin, Uninsured, and More and I want to write here my reaction and some of my thoughts that occurred while I was putting this together. There is no bias filtering in this post on @dwinblood. I speak my own mind, have my own opinions, and am free to express them here. I do not expect all of the @newsagg audience to agree with my thoughts or opinions.

Right Leaning Section

The news aggregation post begins with the typically "right" leaning news outlets. I am not a fan of the term right/left, but I believe most people know what I mean by them (though definitions vary).

The first article was from Newswars and was titled AP Admits: Trump Has Kept Most of His Promises. I believe this is something that emphasis is put on as it is unusual of presidents. They usually make a lot of promises on the campaign trail. Often they end up doing mostly the opposite of many of the promises they make. It is unusual for presidents to keep campaign trail promises. Usually they just throw out promises like bait as they fish for votes. They don't care about those promises, they just care about finding the good bait.

Now this did make me think about some discussions I had before Trump was elected. A lot of people were freaked out over some of his promises. I told them back then "Politicians always say stuff when running. Actions are more important. These words may be meaningless. I know Clinton's are bullshit as we have a history of actions of hers showing these as a lie. So don't be too afraid, we have no idea if Trump really will do these things."

Well I guess if the ideas terrified them then they should be upset as Trump is not really acting "presidential" in the modern sense. He is keeping his word. It was more than bait. If you were afraid of those actions then this may seem bad. If you were not then it is refreshing that someone is actually doing the things that got them elected. It is more than bait. So perhaps he is more presidential than the so-called presidents we've had for awhile that just LIE to get votes.

We'll revisit this LIE concept a bit later as the left has their opinion on this PROMISE keeping too.

I then moved onto Zerohedge. There is always a ton of information on Zerohedge. I try not to do too many similar posts from their. They can have a ton of financial, stock, crypto type posts in a row. I'll usually pick one or two from there and then look for other subjects. This is usually not difficult to do as Zerohedge is pretty prolific when it comes to articles. They are also easy to find rather than having to bounce around and try to navigate to find them.

Putin Pals Panic Over US "Corrupt Oligarchs" List, Begin Liquidating Assets is the title of the article there that I first shared in the aggregation. This article is disturbing to me as people are still pushing laws, actions, and consequences based purely on unproven allegations. This seems rather stupid and dangerous. Let us provoke Russia and condemn them over something that has been in the news for more than a year "Russian Collusion" which has had an investigation into Trump over this for more than a year with NO proof of any kind of collusion. Last I heard we are close to $18 million spent investigating this and it hasn't stopped. There have been lives financially destroyed by this investigation. It originally began with "Russian Hacking" which anyone that deals with hackers regularly (I do) knows was a completely fabricated claim for political reasons. It wasn't possible based upon the information that was provided. The FBI was not given access to the servers. They simply took the statements of a third party that it was true. They upturned the world over something which they had no proof. They took action as though it were true as this article shows. They continue to take action on this being true. This is acting on a Guilty Until Proven Innocent type of action and it is not only unjust, it is foolhardy. Prove it. Then Act. Acting without proof is idiocy. Given the information that has come out it is not even that probable. Did they likely interfere with our election in some way? Yes. Guess what I could say that about EVERY country on the planet. I could also talk about how WE (The United States) interfere and influence elections in likely every country on the planet. It is normal. It is not new. It did not suddenly occur due to Trump existing. It can be found to be a process going back centuries.

Report: Middle East Christians on the Eve of Destruction is the next article. I had a few thoughts about the Crusades that went through my mind. I wondered briefly what problems Islam truly has with Christianity. I had anger thinking about the destruction of historical structures. More social Marxism just like obliterating history in the United States. Get rid of the statues, because they are offensive. People take no responsibility for their own actions. It is someone or something elses fault. In this case structures and statues are mind controlling them. The offense happened in their mind, and it was no responsibility of theirs. It must be the statues fault. This is similar to the "If she didn't want to get raped she shouldn't dress like that" argument as far as I am concerned. It is idiocy. Stupid. Moronic. I have a strong bias against destroying history. I am not a Christian or a Muslim. I am fine with people practicing whatever religion they want as long as they don't force it upon others or pass laws based upon it that impact others. So I am not a fan of Shariah law. If it is believed that is required then yes, I would be anti-Islam. I am no Islamophobe as I am not afraid of Islam. I am anti-forcing others. I will fight that regardless of what label you wish to dress it up in.

Colbert Invites Chuck Schumer to Bash 'Far Right' Trump as Against 'America's Values' - I used to enjoy these shows just like the average person. Until they became so overtly biased and propaganda in nature. I realize they always have been a bit of propaganda and pushing the views of the writers and comedians involved. That was fine until so many people stopped viewing it simply as comedy and started treating it like legitimate news. At that point it became dangerous. It actually is one of the most effective sources of propaganda control as far as I am concerned. Now that I can see it so clearly I find a lot of difficulty in finding the humor. It is too IN YOUR FACE and BLATANT in terms of the bias. Thus, I pretty much don't watch any shows like this any longer unless I happen to catch reference to one somewhere and I'll watch it for context.

Sen. Graham: 'People Coming Across Southern Border Live in Hellholes' - My thought on this article was how they chose "hellholes" instead of "shitholes" which is all over the media. Same thing as far as I am concerned. Political and Propaganda techniques to rile people up over words and make those words into a GASPING bad thing. Though it is likely Trump didn't actually say "shitholes" as far as I can tell. Did he likely describe the places in such a way that the term "shithole" came to mind for some people? If the shoe fits. In this case the label subjectively seems relevant. It also doesn't have a damn thing to do with race. Shitholes, Hellholes, crappots, Ghettos, Slums, whatever you want to call it. They all essentially mean the same thing. Yet the media and certain politicians latch onto these "words" as though they are new, have not been said by others, and as though there is no truth in them. In fact, they'll try to use other words which essentially mean the same thing, but they'll act like it is not bad because it is a different word. Why? It is about finding any stupid little thing they can blow out of proportions and get some kind of movement behind. Preying upon idiocy and the controlled mind. Propaganda. Make the word "Door" bad but the word "Portal" good. Identity politics, propaganda, and manipulation of the public. The Panamanian Ambassador even resigned over the "Shithole" allegations. Again it is an ALLEGATION. Accusation comes. People act as though it is truth, without any verification or proof. More GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT unjust behavior and stupidity.

Right-wing Italian politician causes stir, saying migrants ‘wipe out’ white race - This caused an outrage in people? Idiots! He is speaking truth. If you don't have the food, infrastructure, jobs, etc to accommodate the immigrants then a smart person would refuse them. It wouldn't have anything to do with race. If the immigrants have no interest in integrating into your culture and country but instead want to bring their culture and ideologies and force them on your country then technically are they really immigrants or are they instead invaders. I believe they are actually invaders and many countries are reaping the consequences. Sweden is becoming a "shithole" thanks to so-called "immigrants". This can be said of many places. A lot of places I would have liked to visit some day I likely won't ever bother with. I see a new form of invasion occurring all over the world and dressing it up in socialism, Marxism, racism, religion, etc and making it Politically Incorrect to talk about the invasion so the invasion can continue unabated.

Left Leaning Section

Bannon Subpoenaed to Testify Before Grand Jury - All I thought here was "What now?" Political Wire's posts are usually super short and don't have a lot of substance from what I normally see. They definitely can be pretty loaded in terms of title. Then back that with a small post with very little substance and it becomes more of an "appeal to authority" type of expectation. This site might appeal to people who don't really like to read long things of substance and think. It is just a bit more than Twitter, so people may find such short posts appealing. I don't. Yet, I make sure to put something from this site into every @newsagg Headlines post.

New Medicaid Rules Will Give Kentucky Health Care Whiplash - I didn't put a lot of thought into this. I've found that Talking Points Memo focuses on taking every topic they can and framing it in a way to accentuate the extremes. It can give a very bias and exaggerated view on issues. They are prolific. If I find myself needing some more material for the "Left Leaning" section this is my go to site. Slate is more exaggerate than TPM. Out of the two I prefer this one. I haven't thought much about the Medicaid and Kentucky issues in this post yet. I may in the future.

Donald Trump’s Enduring Promise - is the title of the actual article at Slate when you click on it. Their front page had a different title mentioning his Lies. I mentioned that I'd get around to coming back to the "lies" later in this post. Well we are there. I knew this article was there. Lies require intent. If a person believes what they are saying then they are NOT lying. A Lie requires you know one thing is true, but you state another thing. Being naive, forgetting, being uninformed, and having opinions are NOT LIES. Given that. I haven't seen Trump actually lie that often. I think I have seen a couple of times that "lie" would be appropriate, but I really had to look and it has been awhile. In fact, I had to look so long that I can't remember what they were. In those cases it could be they were not lies too. You see there is another thing that is not a lie. People can change their mind. In fact if they receive information that warrants changing their mind then they SHOULD unless they are idiots. So they talk about how often Trump lies. I can't find it. I can find cases where he seems naive, or uninformed, but he clearly believes what he is saying so that means it is not a lie. I put the challenge out there to SHOW ME THE LIE and really not much ever comes from that. Also just for those of you that may not know me. I didn't vote for Trump. Though I probably would now.

*Hawaii’s “false alarm” and the advanced preparations for war against North Korea - I didn't have too many reactions to this it is something that has been reported for several days. Is their an agenda? Perhaps. I don't know. I'll keep it in mind, but at the moment this is not something I want to pay much attention to. If there is an agenda then is there some reason to hype and increase the feeling of "danger" in the citizens.

Lazy Liberals and “the Trump Effect” - Is one of the articles from The Greanville Post. They were recommended to me by @homerus. I actually believe they have some of the best and most researched writing in the Left Leaning section. In fact, I'd say they have some of the best writing period. That said it also has a very clear bias. It does not seek to deny this. They do tend to push a Socialist, Marxist, Communist point of view in most of their articles. This is not something I am receptive to. I do believe their writing is really exceptional at times though. For this reason, and the fact they are not prolific I do tend to include all of their headlines in the Headlines aggregation. So as to this article. The thing that popped out at me as I was writing this was more tied to the Maxine Waters image they used. I found myself thinking "My god those are some huge lips" and I was not being racist at all. I look at anatomy quite a bit in game dev, and this seemed very oddly huge. I looked closer and realized that it was intentionally MADE and EXAGGERATED to make it look this way. That I found curious as the image clearly makes fun of one of the advocates of the "left" and the term "Lazy Liberals" seems more like something you'd expect to see from the "Right". As you dig into the article you'll find images such as this.

Yet I already explained the bias and tendencies of this site. Though like I said this site has some of the best writing, and best research. They often say a lot of things in their articles that I actually agree with. This is no exception. I simply do not usually come to precisely the same conclusions that they do. I will say that The Greanville Post does seem to be written by thinkers which is a huge step up from most formulaic "media" of these days.

Here are some quotes from the first of that article. I believe it will show why I say that I agree with some of their points.

Liberals and other Democrats are getting dumber by the day. I keep running into them and hearing the same story over and over: things are bad because Trump is the president.
That’s it. It’s all you have to know. It’s the only thing that matters to these unstable dolts. It’s all about Trump. It’s Trump this, Trump that. All day long. Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, and Trump some more.

North Korea and the Danger of Nuclear War: Michel Chossudovsky in Vancouver, January 16: - I didn't give this a lot of thought. I posted it more as a current discussion and a point of interest for a lot of people. I'm not a big fan of doomsayers. Yes, doom is always potentially looming. Focus on what you can do.

Denormalizing Hate - Ugh. Then Truthdig comes in with this article. I immediately thought about how it is not Denormalizing Hate. The trend is to turn everything into HATE. If you say something that offends me, that is hate. If you disagree with me then anything you say is HATE. That is crazy, that is idiocy, that is mind control, and that is hijacking the label HATE to actually justify HATE and VIOLENCE. This article from truthdig continues that trend.

Salmonella May Be Behind Death of 15 Million Aztecs: Study - As a fan of history I found this title especially interesting. I plan to look into this in more detail. I was happy when putting the Left section together to find an article that seems potentially truly interesting and may not be purely based upon some bias. I need to go give this a read and give it some serious thought, but for now it seems like a very interesting study from a historical perspective. This was a telesur article.

Mainstream Media Section

Your guide to Congress' 'high stakes game of chicken' - CNN bursts out of the gate with the "Government Shutdown" narrative. Same story, different year, different quarter, etc. The phrase "Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it". Are you ready for them to print signs and close national parks and tell you that you can't get into them due to Government Shutdown? We didn't need the government to visit those places several decades ago. Spending money on signs, shutting them down, and patrolling them hits a point that is very VISIBLE to citizens and gets them to yell at their politician. This shutdown in reality is over DEBT. The government has maxed out it's credit cards. Who is liable for that? The citizens. Who are the debtors for that? We are.

Why is the shutdown happening? They won't make cuts. Even though we are spending money on stupid things not only in this country but all over the world. They won't cut those. They'll turn it into a political show, and make it seem like the shutdown is a bad thing and it is one party or the other's fault, or that it is Trump's fault even though this has been going on for a long time and lately seems to happen every year.

So when they give in and raise the debt ceiling what are they doing? Unlike you and I they are calling the credit card company and saying "give me more credit". Who is responsible for that debt? We the people. When we max our credit cards we have to be responsible and do something about it. When the government does, they don't have to be responsible. They also will waste money printing signs so that things you could go to without fences and patrols like we have today suddenly need those signs and people. Why? It is a great and visible place to actually make government shutdown impact YOU.

So same game... different year... "Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it." They know the history. They just ignore it.

4 South Carolina officers shot after domestic violence call - CNN. I did have some fresh thoughts on this at the time, but if I am being honest I don't remember what they were. I don't want to just make things up. I did believe this could be important information for some people. Also, I do not pick the headlines here I mostly pull these already aggregated by news.google.com. I figure that is already going to be a mainstream aggregation. So by using this I don't inject as much of my own bias into them.

Two of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Children Speak Out Against Trump - The New York Times comes out with this. One of the thought's that came into my mind here was that they only report on the King family when they are against Trump. They tend to ignore all the times that they supported him, and he supported them. Though the following quote is important to putting this article into context.

Addressing the congregation where her father was a co-pastor between 1960 and 1968, Ms. King added, “We cannot allow the nations of the world to embrace the words that come from our president as a reflection of the true spirit of America.”

You see that is focusing on the ALLEGATIONS of "shithole" which is all over the news and there is ZERO proof that he actually said that. Furthermore, if he did it has ZERO to do with racism. A country is NOT a race. Furthermore, whether you like the word or not then subjectively the situation in many of these countries and environments make the word suitable. I discussed this earlier. This is again people reacting to ACCUSATIONS and ALLEGATIONS as truth and taking action and making statements based upon something before it is proven. GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT, aka injustice, aka idiocy, aka propaganda.

DHS chief says she didn't hear Trump use a vulgar word, but admits he used "tough language" - CBS News. Not the only report stating no "shithole" comment. Two people from that meeting claim he said "shithole". Others have said he did not. Which is true? Believing a thing does not make it true. He may have said it and he may not have said it. So we shouldn't be taking actions on MAYBEs. If he did say it... SO WHAT?!?! It has ZERO to do with racism. People are trying to tie it to identity politics, but countries are not a RACE.

Kim Wall death: Danish prosecutors say murder was planned - BBC News. I know this is important to quite a number of people. I made sure to include it as it does give some more information.

US allies from Korean War meet on North Korean nuke threat - The Washington Post. More hype and FUD as far as I am concerned.

EU still open to Britain changing mind on Brexit - Reuters. Yeah, UK keep showing us how well your 'Democracy' works. People voted to leave. It hasn't happened, and it looks like everything is being done to stall or reverse the voting rights of those people. Your citizens that voted to leave an organization where you don't get to elect your "rulers" and that can force immigrants upon you that are more like invaders were smart. Those of you that want to stay and watch your country disappear... idiocy. Get out of the EU. You'll be fine. If you were next to a sinking ship like the Titanic in a raft do you think it would be smart to tie your raft to the Titanic? Well in this case the UK is the raft, and the EU is the Titanic. Get away, before you are sucked into the abyss.

3.2 million more people were uninsured at the end of 2017 than at the end of 2016 - The Washington Post is here. The agenda is clear here. The "Those who don't know their history..." quote comes to mind again. First of all. Obamacare (aka the Affordable Healthcare Act*) has still been active during 2017. So this has nothing to do with Trump. 2018 will be a different story. Yet keep in mind not having insurance is not the same as not having CARE. In fact, insurance can get in the way of your CARE. It can make that care super expensive. I spent 2 hours at the hospital a few weeks ago. I have GOLD insurance. My portion after insurance that I have to pay for that 2 hours is about $2000.

Before the days of insurance and if I had no insurance do you know how much that would have cost me? About $2000. Though the difference is I am paying $600+/mo just to have that insurance. So it actually costs me MORE. Most of my family has been uninsured SINCE Obamacare because we cannot afford it. Furthermore the deductibles and quality of the plans has worsened a great deal. Having insurance in the long run is actually taking way more of your money than healthcare did before this FORCED insurance situation they like to pretend is Healthcare. It also can make it far more difficult to be looked at, treated, etc. As anything the Government guarantees has done it has sent the prices into the stratosphere. You were better off uninsured and three decades ago than you are insured today. So being uninsured is not the same as without healthcare. Emergency Rooms will not refuse people without insurance. It is a shell game, and they keep robbing us blind and then spinning it as though they are saving us with our stolen wallet.

Also, how did they come up with the 3.2 million? Is that due to not being able to afford the ever increasing costs? Is that due to 3.2 million immigrants that entered the country? How do they come up with the number? What demographic? And if this is true keep in mind it would have been true with Obama as well, as we are still under those laws. So the attempt to pin this again on Trump or as though a reflection of his actions... FAIL if you know your history and take a minute to think.

EOS looking for it's support. - By @tradewonk - I am biased here. I think EOS is a great idea. I own 250 EOS myself so as an investor I am obviously biased. Right now if I were to push for a crypto that people should be building big projects on, this is the one I'd push. It has massive potential. This is why I took a risk and stuck a good chunk of money (for me) into it.

The Hijab Scissor Hoax - A lesson in Propaganda And Fake News From The Canadian Government - By @pressfortruth. I just shook my head here. So many of the comments said anything I needed to say. From the country that made using the wrong pronoun illegal it doesn't surprise me the idiocy occurring in their country just like the U.S. it is a global mind plague.

ICO's Are Revolutionising Addiction - By @kyriacos. I am not actually a big fan of ICOs. I believe we have too many cryptos. I believe that the constant creating a new crypto instead of embracing and building upon good ones we already have is a problem. It also damages accessibility to the common people.

Global Warming? - By @janusface. Now I am going to go off the deep end a bit for some of you. You may already think I went off the deep end awhile ago. My wife and I observe things. For me it feels as though the seasons have shifted about 2 to 3 months from where they used to be. This has been the case for a few years. Lately the weather, temperatures, etc that used to begin in October seem to start in December or January. Furthermore, the hottest months seemed to be June, July, August. This also seems to have shifted so it is hotter going into September. So there does seem to be some change. My wife made a claim that I have not been able to prove, disprove, and it would be too late at this point. She watched the sun over the years rise out of bay window we have in our kitchen facing East. She swears that the direction the sun is rising from has shifted some. She says while it was East in the past that it has been drifting more towards a South East direction. I figure if this were true a lot of people would have noticed this. So she could be mistaken, and I just don't want to argue about it. Or perhaps she is seeing something and I am just unaware. One thing I can say. I know the number one influence on climate is the SUN. I know the sun is going through changes and is allegedly approaching a solar minimum which could usher in an ice age. The problem with the entire Political/Religious Climate Change movement is it puts TOO MUCH influence to be HUMAN MADE. This is bullshit. It is political. IT is about power and money. We could influence the climate with some effort, but we are a small fraction of the influence if there is any. What the sun does, dwarfs what we do. Volcanic activity dwarfs what we can do. Also it is important to note that the Climate Changed before humans were here. The climate will change if humans are not here. The climate has changed numerous times in recorded history while humans were here. It WILL change again. Will we continue to allow the political/religious indoctrinated class to blame everything on human activity to push for their power grabs, laws, and political agendas?

Is Steemit an “Impractical Platform” in View of Tax Regulations? A Reddit Argument Review + 1 SBD Reward for Concise Solution to a Tax Problem. - By @kafkanarchy84. I didn't read this yet. The title makes me think of things I've been thinking of for awhile. For taxes for myself based upon what I read from the IRS I have begun keeping a spreadsheet of SBD rewards and their value AT THE TIME I received them. For tax purposes what they were valued at when you received them seems to be what the IRS is currently looking at in terms of taxes. I've been really lax about keeping tack of this in the past. I started doing so in detail as of the beginning of January. When I get some SBD I jot down the date, time, how much I got, and what the current value of SBD in USD is at coinmarketcap.com.

Stop Sexually Abusing a 7 years old angel - By @suf1an. All that kept going through my head is how Turkey recently made it legal for 9 year olds to be a sexual target. Their argument was that they can get pregnant. To put that into perspective that is around the 4th grade here in the United States. So in Turkey they can have sex with 4th Graders. Pedophilia. If this again is what ALL of Islam believes then I will fight this. I see it as very sick...

Here are some 4th grade girls to put this into perspective:

How should we treat the Venezuelan Petro Crypto Coin? - By @johngentry. I believe centralizing or giving any government entity control over a crypto largely defeats the purpose. We don't want them manipulating and messing with the currency. I saw Ripple going crazy for a bit, but after researching it more Ripple for example is NOT a "crypto" I'll support. It is the antithesis of a big part of why Bitcoin was originally created.

U.S lifts ban on pork importation from Mexico - By @jwolf. I only had a few thoughts go through my head on this one. The first was "We banned pork imports from Mexico?". The second was "Hey, look Trump lifted a ban." That's about it.

It takes me some time to put those headlines together, and it has taken quite a bit of time to write this blow by blow thoughts on the headlines. This is not something I believe I am likely to do often, but I felt like trying it on for size today.

Sort:

RESPECT! What an Amazing load of information. Some topics did bring up some questions, so need more investigation. I like to have topics which makes me curious!

It actually is one of the most effective sources of propaganda control as far as I am concerned.

Damn, I can't find an image I have; it was a screencap from /pol making the argument that the Daily Show was using a propaganda technique to "train" their audience to agree with democong talking points, or to rev up the Two Minute Hates for those that disagreed with The Narrative.

IIRC, the premise was this:
the "comedian" sets this up by pacing his jokes, after the humor timing is established, the "comedian" inserts the talking points into the timeline where agreement and laughter are expected, associating the talking point with a "true burn"...

also see How Jon Stewart turned lies into comedy and brainwashed a generation

In my opinion, it is better to not read all the controversial news. Because the news causes unnecessary confusion among the people.

That is why I do the newsagg posts. I grab from EVERY perspective I can in one place. I always thought it was dangerous to treat any ONE perspective as the truth. Then all you do is become the agent of their bias. Yet if you look across the spectrum and USE YOUR OWN MIND you can kind of triangulate on what hopefully might be closer to the truth.

The problem is that you need to read each of these sources. I didn't see a really easy way to do that. So I created one.

Also confusion is part of life. People need to quit looking for the easy/lazy way out and take some responsibility. Though the trend is in the opposite direction.

I agree with you!

great post

Excellent post friend, you can see all the news that I publish and I am very much attentive, the sexual abuse of Turkey and the cryptocurrency Petro and its foray into the market, very good information, I congratulate you blessings for you and your family.
