Inspiring Young Girl Opts For Feeding The Homeless Over Getting Birthday Presents
A story about young 6 year old girl has gone viral this week, after news about her touching and inspiring generosity gained attention. The young girl generously decided that this year she wanted to feed the homeless in her community rather than have a birthday party or receive presents.
The young girl, Armani Crews, is from Chicago and this year when asked about her plans for her birthday she told her parents that she wanted to go out and feed the homeless rather than have a party with her friends.
Her parents warned her that if she decided to go and hand out food to the homeless, that she wouldn't be able to get any presents as well and she said that so long as those in need received food, that she wasn't worried about the getting any gifts.
A Group Affair
Armani decided to post about her plans to social media and the word quickly spread and many of her family and friends started donating to the cause. The family went ahead and prepared a variety of items to give away: pizza, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, fish, chicken, bottled water, fruits.
They also assembled care packages that contained a variety of essentials like protein bars, deodorant, and toothpaste. The family worked together for many days in order to get the food prepared and put the packages together.
Armani is said to have worn a tiara when she went out on her birthday to hand out the goodies to those in need in her community of Chicago. She wasn't alone, she was with other volunteers as well, handing out hot meals and those nifty care packages. The family says that they received so much joy and satisfaction out of getting to help others that they now plan to make this a family tradition.
It's estimated that she helped at least 125 people that night.
Getting Permission To Feed The Homeless
Unfortunately in a lot of places around the US at the moment, it is prohibited to feed the homeless if you don't have the proper permission to do so. Regardless of the restrictions, many people still insist on going out and trying to give to those in need. And because of their disobedience to obeying the restrictions on helping the homeless, many individuals have been arrested for their charity contributions.
It's quite a shameful action on the part of law enforcement officials, to initiate violence against someone for trying to help another person in need. In one instance, a prosecutor dropped the charges because they said it would be a waste of resources and the courts time to pursue a case against someone for simply trying to feed another human being.
I truly believe that no act of kindness is ever wasted, no matter how small it may seem at the time. Just the generosity of one little girl can inspire so many to want to go out and do the same, to help others in need. This story is a gentle reminder to us that it doesn't take much time, much money, or much effort, to try and carry out an act of kindness for someone else.
