Facial Recognition Coming To An Airport Near You
A growing number of airlines have admitted that they are looking to facial recognition technology to help them supposedly decrease their boarding times. And though it might be slow to roll out at airports around the US, you can already find it in use in many places. Though, there are airports in the US however that have already tested the use of this technology.
And airlines such as British Airways, JetBlue, and Lufthansa have already signaled their interest to push for more biometric identification methods in the overall travel and boarding.
In China, there are already over 60+ airports that are said to be using facial recognition to decrease security checks and enhance their overall efficiency.
And you can find airports in places like Dubai, Singapore, Australia, and other regions, also looking to utilize this sort of technology for their screening process.
Though, it's suspected that China might be the one best positioned to win the race, at having the majority or all of their airports using this technology.
One of the companies in China that's been working on facial recognition, just recently became regarded as the world's most valuable AI start-up. That company, SenseTime Group, has managed to raise hundreds of millions and secured themselves an evaluation of roughly $3 billion.
And it's not just airports either, that we might expect to see these systems unfold. The facial recognition technology is also being used at train stations and sporting events, along with other arenas.
In China, it's alleged that Chinese Southern Airlines was the first carrier to go ahead and adopt the technology. And for the passengers who went through the process, they didn't need to use any boarding pass for check-in or boarding.
Many in the industry expect that within a few years time, this technology is going to greatly transform the market. Ultimately, many expect that facial recognition technology is going to help to streamline the travel process and be used to help simplify things.

Why?Why?Why?Why? What is the purpose of mass surveillance? What does every goddamn human being need to be facially recognized, monitored, tracked and plopped into some database? To save a couple minutes in a queue? To have a better chance at apprehending some bad guy a little faster?
Or, to monitor and database everyone in a society so that those in power have complete control over the populace?
I, for one, can't wait until we get the social credit scoring system they have deployed in China...guess I'll be walking everywhere after it is deployed here in the ussa. :(
Anyone who thinks this is going to somehow save time is greatly mistaken.
This is for "security" and "catching bad guys". That is all.
That means that's no hiding for some people anymore.

It is good to see the use of technology well implemented and at the service of people, more and more people are traveling to different parts of the world, we must be prepared to reduce the waiting time at airports.
