ITS ABOUT FREAKING TIME

I have been wondering for awhile now when Coinbase would finally be backed into the corner and adopt segwit, they can no longer mess with the mempool.

Coinbase is not alone in recently adopting the technology. Last week the Bitcoin Core wallet upgraded to allow SegWit Transactions, which was followed by an announcement from Bitfinex that they too were now utilizing SegWit on Bitcoin transactions. Bitfinex were clear of the advantages of the protocol upgrade, stating in their blog post:

“We are delighted that through this implementation we can provide our customers with bitcoin withdrawal fees that are up to 20 percent lower, as well as faster-than-ever transaction speeds.”

It seems absolutely ridiculous that it took well over 6 months for adoption to happen.
Was it only after the mass complaints from customers?
Maybe the system down times?
Accusations of market manipulation to benefit BCH?
Competition from RobinHood Trading app entering the space?

I think all of the above but generally this is a huge benefit for the entire crypto space as a whole, lower transaction fees should result in increased interest. With arguments for adoption being around the wait times and fees we should see much larger adoption around the corner!
