John McCain, the 80-year-old US Senator and former Republican presidential candidate, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain tumor.

McCain was operated on Friday in Phoenix due to a blood clot over the left eye, while doctors concluded that he has an aggressive form of a brain tumor with laboratory analysis. McCain, who has successfully overcome skin cancer, has an option of irradiation or chemotherapy.

One of the greatest fighters

From Washington, and elsewhere on the news, expressions of support come. US President Donald Trump, who has often met with McCain, has, along with his first lady Melanie, wished for a quick recovery and stressed that McCain was always a fighter. Chancellor Mitch McConnell, who, due to McCain's operation, has shifted his vote on health reform since he needs every vote, said McCain was a hero for his parliamentary group and for the entire country. For this reason he is convinced that he will deal with the disease with "an extraordinary courage that marked his whole life". Former US President Barack Obama tweeted: "John McCain is an American hero and one of the bravest person I know. Cancer does not know who he is fighting against. Show him, John."

During the Vietnam War, McCain was shot as an naval pilot and spent five and a half years as a prisoner of the Communist Vietnam. He was often beaten and tortured in the prison, but he nevertheless refused the early release offered to him, because he was the son of the admiral. Devotion was marked by his long political path

In 2008, Barack Obama defeated him in the election. After his defeat, he returned to the Senate, where he took over the influential committee for the armed forces and he often criticized foreign policy of both Obama and Trump.
