Achievement 3 @queensleey Task
WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?
According to Oxford Advanced English Dictionary, plagiarism is an act of copying another person's idea(s), word(s), or work(s) pretending that it's their own. That's, plagiarism is claiming ownership to someone else's idea or work as your own either in writing or orally. It could be liken to what people call cross-dressing...a male dressing in a female attire, making people believe he's a female or vice versa.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM.
We have different types of plagiarism:
Direct plagiarism.
Complete plagiarism
Self plagiarism...etc.
Direct plagiarism: happens when you quote someone without making reference to the person- right source.
Example - when I say "individual with high psychological well-being is happy, capable, well supported, satisfied with professional and personal life"
Instead of adding the source,I leave it as my quote. I would rather quote and cite the person...
"Individual with high psychological
well-being is happy, capable, well
supported, satisfied with
professional and personal life."
( Sharma, 2014)
It's also the same with our Bible quotations ... Psalm 23 "the Lord is my Shepherd..."
Verbatim Plagiarism: it is when I take a research/ book by someone else and present it as mine by cancelling the original author's name and writing mine...
HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
As we can see above, there are so many things one can do to avoid plagiarism--
- read a text well to understand it the, write it in your own words.
- do not do any work in a hurry. Take your time to do your research.
- avoid procrastination. Do your work when you are supposed to so you don't end up copying. Then cite works appropriately.Etc.
WHAT IS CITATION?
As we can see above, citation is giving out or writing down the places where you get sources for your write ups. Making right reference to your sources.
HOW TO CITE A WORK.
Every written / oral work has an original owner. Know the person that gave that quotation/ write up and make reference to him/her. For articles, copy and paste the link just as above.
