Ork Hulk (Game 1) Finished!

in #newbiegames6 years ago

Ding Dong, the Weirdboy's dead... which old Weirdboy? The headless Weirdboy!

Here we have it, ladies and gentleorks.

I'm going to call it finished, for reasons of no one beating Ciel to the Steem next turn.

You all played amazingly... coming up with ideas and strategies that I have never prepared for because I had never thought of.

Congratulations to our 2 winners:

@justatouchfey for completing the objective despite dying in her 3rd turn. The ORK KILLAH came straight back and her impact was huge.

@pandorasbox fragged the absolute bajeezus out of the weirdboy's minders after @urbangladiator ran in and got his head exploded. She was incredibly strategic with her angles - minimizing her risk but maximizing her damage. @pandorasbox only just took it out though, @pbock got very good at frags too, @happyme was an absolute monster with the Big Shoota and @urbangladiator burned 'em all.

Well done to you all, it was an absolute pleasure to have you all play.

Thoughts for the next game

Bouncing off @pandorasbox suggestions in the last game, I'm thinking of the following.

  • You're a mob of Ork Boyz attacking a human settlement.
  • The map will be the same width, but 3 times deeper with more open spaces.
  • Players will choose a type of ork to play; Weirdboy, Stormboy (jetpacks), Painboy, Mekboy, Nob, Boarboy, etc.
  • Each type will have a different bonus ability.
  • Players can also roll to get an extra piece of wargear when they start... or when they search piles of junk on the battlefield.
  • Some of the ork players will be able to move around the board quicker than others, but all players will also get an Advance move when no enemy is nearby to help get into the action quicker if they die.
  • Ork Boy types will be complementary to each other to promote strategizing and teamwork, ie, the Painboy is a healer, the Weirdboy can move others, the MekBoy can improve wargear.
  • Fog of War will be gone, the Orks will have scanners to see all the humans... but the humans will move around as they see fit to protect their STEEM cache.

I'd like to keep the rules pretty much the same as Game 1... since that's what we've learnt and are (hopefully) mostly comfortable with, but I'm also not opposed to tweaking the rules either, to make game-play more enjoyable or to introduce more decision-making for the players.

So... at this illustrious celebration of a game well played, do you have any thoughts or wishes? Was anything annoying or tedious? Was it too complex? Too simple? Is there anything you think would make it more interesting?

I really like the ideas suggested. Especially being different kinds of orks and the map expansion!

ORK KILLAH! (^_^)/)

Your new profile pic is TOO MUCH! Much cute, so eyes.

Congratulations to the 2 women who cleaned up in the winner's circle!

Fun game. It was a shot in the dark at first because none of us really knew what we were doing. Now that we have a better understanding of how the game works, we can be better prepared for the next game. The new twists sound great. Let's see how they play out.

Thank you all for persisting! I realise it was especially confusing at first... but you were all so strategic and I had so much fun playing with the enemy Orks. I should be able to create the map tomorrow, and hopefully should have the first post out in the next couple of days.

Awesome!

I'm traveling interstate at the moment, but I should have something like 11 hours of plane time tomorrow to start photoshopping this together. Hopefully we can start in the next couple of days.

I really loved this game! Very happy about winning too! :) I will use it to power up.

It was a really close game too...! I really liked all the twists and turns at the end. For a while I was sure @urbangladiator was going to win, then it looked like me, then it looked like it was all up in the air. Having @justatouchfey win at the end was pretty cool from that angle.

Too bad @urbangladiator missed turns though..! I feel like he had a decent good shot at matching my kill count and potentially even the STEEM. Despite my high frag kills I think @urbangladiator was absolutely dominating in the beginning with the burna!

As for the new games I really like the sound of them! With the new ork classes... how about when a player respawns he or she can opt to choose a different class of ork? Like if you died as a weirdboy, you can respawn back in as a Stormboy (jetpacks omg). This would allow for dynamic strategies and variety!

Or if the jetpack makes players move too fast, to avoid everybody choosing the jetpack upon respawn, maybe add a little penalty like skipping a turn to change class? Or maybe the advance move cancels this out for the other classes.

Secondly if the jetpack increases range a lot, then this is perhaps too big of an edge with regards to getting the steem?

As for keeping the rules the same I am for it but I would request changing the burna to be slightly less overpowered (maybe not insta-hit-kill) and perhaps the power claw a little bit more powered (D3 attacks?)

Also very curious to see the classes and abilities... you know me and my strategizing! I'll be spending hours puzzling and thinking on these classes and abilities before I am able to make a decision.
Yes I am a classic Libra.

Yes... so I'm thinking that the Burna needs a roll... even if it is 2+, it just felt odd to be autokill... like, not as fun. The burna should have a lot less impact on a bigger map, but your points are very much valid.

Don't forget that you'll be playing as Orks, against humans... and so the jetpacks are Ork-built... meaning they are pretty much rockets tied to your back... with a dice-rolled distance. Should be very fun, but you'll need to roll with the punches.

I forgot to mention that people could choose a different class each time they restart, and roll for new wargear. I don't think I'll have weapons on the battlefield like before... just because I feel like that slowed things down a touch.

You might be pleased to know that you'll be playing as special characters... but there will also be regular Ork friendly troops running around to help you fight the humans, so that should add an extra element of strategy in there.

The power claw is definitely getting a buff... and will be able to attack structures themselves. Who needs a door when you've got a power klaw?

Sounds good! When do we start :)

I'm hoping to have all the artwork finished tomorrow. So we should start before next week... obviously I'll tag you all so you know what the deal is.
