The best VPN for Netflix and online security in 2021!

in #netflix3 years ago (edited)

Which VPN service is ideal for those of us looking for a reliable, cheap, and fast VPN service that will keep us safe online, at at the same time, give us access to Netflix content in different countries worldwide?

Due to COVID-19, millions of people had to work from home in 2020, which resulted in an incredible increase of VPN users worldwide. As you might know, a VPN is the abbreviation for Virtual Private Network, which is about securing you online. In other words, it is a tool that will help you remain safe and protected, even when working from home and not at your working place (which hopefully has great tools implemented already).

A VPN is a tool that will encrypt your data as you send them. Whenever you visit a website, send an email, or do any other activity on your computer (like opening an application), data is sent across the World Wide Web with data and other information. Some data might be important and confidential, while other data might not be that private. However, data in itself is valuable, and that is why hackers are eager to steal as much as possible, in order to later sell it to buyers or take advantage of the data gathered.

In other words, a VPN will encrypt your data, meaning that your data will be hidden and impossible to read and understand for hackers. While protecting you, a VPN will also change your IP address, meaning that it can be used to bypass geo-blocks, give access to websites you are banned from, and also help you bypass censorship in countries restricting access to social media sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and others. Not only can the VPN be used to unblock social media sites, but it can also be used to watch content on Netflix in other countries. Let me explain how this works quickly. If you don't care, just jump across this part of the article.

How can a VPN help you watch Netflix content in other countries?

Let us say that you have a VPN subscription to a VPN provider with servers in 100 countries. Normally, you will be allowed to connect to all those servers, included in your subscription. If you connect to a server in France, you will get a French IP address. As a result, all websites will believe that you are located in France. As you visit Netflix with a French IP address, you will, therefore, see the content of French Netflix, instead of the content of the country you are actually in.

It is important to know that the content on Netflix differ greatly between countries, meaning that there are 1000s of titles available on Netflix in the USA which you cannot find elsewhere, and the same is true about Netflix in Canada, the UK, Japan, Australia, and other countries.

To avoid misuse, Netflix has a list of VPN providers and the IP addresses used by those. As a consequence, you might see the content of French Netflix, but when you try to stream the actual content, you will see a proxy and unblocker error message. This is shown because you are using a VPN blocked by Netflix. Several other TV networks and streaming services do the same in order to hinder people from accessing their content abroad using different VPN services.

So, what can you do? You will need to use a VPN that isn't blocked by Netflix.

Which is the best VPN for Netflix and online security in 2021?

I dare to say, that most VPN providers are doing a great job keeping you safe online. Of course, you need to avoid free VPN services at all costs, as they often spy on you and steal your data, instead of keeping you safe! But, if you decide to pay for a subscription, you will most likely find a VPN worth using. But, there are some differences, as some VPNs are stuck in the stone age when it comes to protocols and websites, while others are up to date and have implemented the most modern and popular VPN protocol named the WireGuard protocol. You can learn more about the WireGuard protocol in the following video!

Three VPN providers ideal for Netflix and online security in 2021

I will here share with you three VPN providers that I believe to be ideal for anyone out there in 2021. These are all fantastic VPN providers with the WireGuard protocol implemented, and with great support for Netflix and other streaming services available.

I will start with SurfsharkVPN. This is a quite fresh VPN provider, launched in 2018. Since then, it has turned into one of the most popular services in the world, and they are working like crazy to make it the best. They implemented the WireGuard protocol in all their apps in 2020, and the service can be used on Fire TV, Android TV, Android tablets/phones, iOS systems (iPad/iPhone), Macintosh, Windows, Ubuntu, and other platforms. They have fairly quick servers, and you can use one subscription on as many devices as you like. What does that mean? One subscription is enough for the entire home or for the entire office! :)

What about SurfsharkVPN and Netflix and other streaming services? To be honest, it is currently the best for Netflix, and among the best for online streaming in general. You can currently access Netflix content in approximately 15 countries with SurfsharkVPN, including giants such as the United States, Australia, Japana, Canada, United Kingdom, Netherlands, and some more.

SurfsharkVPN also works with Amazon Prime, PeacockTV, HBO Max, BBC, ITV, ZDF, RaiTV, and lots of others.

ExpressVPN is an amazing VPN with servers in almost 100 countries. This makes it bigger than SurfsharkVPN. This VPN is known to have blazing speeds, and they also have a solid customer service and a nice looking website. But, more importantly, they take your privacy seriously! ExpressVPN has applications for all the big and frequently used platforms, and their applications are really easy to use. More than that, they have a 30-day full refund policy, in case you should buy a subscription but do not like it!

ExpressVPN has implemented the WireGuard protocol with some minor modifications. As a result, they do not call it WireGuard, but instead they call it the LightWay protocol.

ExpressVPN works very well with Netflix in 8 countries (including the USA, Canada, Netherlands, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK). Besides this, it is brilliant for unblocking other streaming sites such as Tenplay, 9Now, Hulu, Amazon Prime, PeacockTV, NBC, BBC, ITV, Channel4, SVT, NRK, France2, TF1, Telecinco, and lots of other TV networks and streaming services.

ExpressVPN is the most expensive of the three VPN services mentioned in this article, but you get a lot of value for your money. If you click the link above, you will even get three months for free if you decide to purchase a 12-months plan!

NordVPN is considered to be the most popular of all VPN services in the world currently. They are famous and they are even a sponsor of Liverpool FC, by many considered to be the best club team in the world of football currently. NordVPN supports all the big platforms, and they have servers in almost 60 countries. That makes the service smaller than ExpressVPN and SurfsharkVPN, but who cares if a VPN provider has a server in Syria or not, if all you want is to surf securly, bypass geo-blocks, and to stream content on Netflix in Japan and in the United States?

NordVPN allows you to have 6 simultaneous connections, and they also have a full refund policy valid for 30 days.

The NordVPN applications are very easy to use, and if you connect to servers in Japan, Netherlands, UK, Canada, or in the United States, you will be able to watch Netflix content in those countries. Should you connect to a server in a different country and visit, you will automatically see the content of American Netflix instead.

These are some thoughts about the best VPN providers for Netflix and online security in 2021. Do not let go of this opportunity to surf securely and to unblock Netflix this year. Many people are tempted to compromise when it comes to security. That is not a wise thing to do. So, get yourself a VPN subscription and watch awesome movies and TV series on Netflix both in your home country and elsewhere using the VPN service you decide to use.

Dear @unbiasedwriter

I've been going through some previously bookmarked posts and I "bumped" into yours.
Im not sure if you will even read this comment (since post is so old), so I will keep it short:

Stay safe :)
Yours, Piotr

Haha, I read it... but don't worry - we have been chatting about VPN provider several times before anyway :)

Netflix has invested a lot of money in VPN detection and blocking. Sometimes it happens that yesterday everything was available and today it doesn't work. The service systematically finds and blocks suspicious VPN IP addresses. And while there has been an active battle between VPN capabilities and video service bans over the past few years, many VPNs offer specific server locations designed for Netflix viewing. But VPN Ranking Research & Source Data has led me to believe that even specific IP addresses are being blocked
