Needleworkmonday - String Art Contest Entry

in #needleworkmonday6 years ago

I thought I'd try out some string art for the String Art contest. I haven't done string art before so it was fun trying it out. I am entering Category 2 as the kids (cats) won't be a lot of help on this one.

I love Star Wars, if you couldn't tell from my Steem name, so I thought doing something in that vein was the way to go. I printed out a pattern for the Rebel logo.

Then I taped it to some card stock since the paper was pretty flimsy.

Here is the needle I used to poke the required holes.

Just like so.

Then I used the larger needle I was going to pull the yarn with to enlarge the holes.

We had some purplish yarn that I thought would look nice given that I have seen a red and a blue Rebel logo before. I started outlining with that as I didn't transfer the border with the holes.

And here is the finished outline.

Then I started filling in the body of the art.

And here is the finished product.

Even the back is still distinguishable as the Rebel logo.

We had an extra frame sitting around, so @jamethiel framed it for me.

This turned out to be a fun project that I enjoyed doing while watching a couple movies. It gave me something to work on.

Sort:

you very carefully approached work :) of course you did not have assistants because they posed for a string art picture with a cat :)))

Sci Fi and yarn - a combination made in heaven. I very silently admit, that I am more of a Star Trek than Star Wars fan, but I loooove your string art. I am hugely inspired to do a different symbol :-DDDD
I love the yarn you used, it looks like a special hand dyed yarn with subtle colour changes... this lends your string art a mysterious quality (very dark and brooding).

I like Star Trek as well so it would be cool to see what you come up with if you decide to make one.

I don't know very much about the yarn, it was something @jamethiel got at some point that she let me use.

The yarn was leftover from a varigated purplish hat I made over the winter. Merino I think. :)

This is really good @lordvdr! I love the way the sharp corners turned out and gave it a unique texture! Love the red contrasting frame too! Good pick @jamethiel! Geez you all are making this the hardest competition we’ve had yet!! So many great entries!

Thanks so much for taking the time to enter! I’m glad you had fun trying this new form of needle art :)

Lol... we thought it sounded fun and had a bit of time to give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration!

Absolutely! It’s a bonus when your artwork turns out beautiful AND you had fun!! 👌🏽

Excellent the idea of the frame @lordvdr, I am now in search of the frame to hang the boat and the Mickey Mouse in my son's room.

That will look great in a frame!

Great idea!
