Needleworkmonday 3-19-18 -that mitten...
Knowing that I was going to be on the road for a little while, I've been working hard trying to finish this Mitten. I just wanted one of them done... I was able to get some work done on the plane today so I've almost got the top portion that flips over the fingers done.
The pattern that I'm using is from Ravelry and is called the Podster gloves- a convertible mitt / glove pattern by Glenna C. It was a free pattern and I've modified it a little bit here and there along my way. I decided I didn't need the flip top thumb- that just seemed annoying to have to knit. But I am looking forward to the flip top fingers portion being done this week.
I like how the thumb area worked in this one I'm not finding a huge hole where it separates from the body. I did cast on three extra knits when I did the thumb just to give it a little bit more flexibility and stability there.
Because I was still playing with ideas when I started to knit and hadn't settled upon a pattern, the wrist portion of the glove is not very pretty right now. But on the plus side it'll fit over a sweater or jacket cuff if need be!
I just landed in the Detroit area and I'm on my way to Tecumseh, Michigan. Stopped in some little random town to grab a geocache and took a picture with a statue of LaSalle who explored this area way back in 1680!
With the weather here doing such strange things, I perhaps need your mittens :-D I am much to lazy for such tiny and difficult things, but admire your patience. They look very neat and professionel 👍
I am curious what you are doing in Tecumseh (I have never heard of this town, but interesting name)?
I teach computerized school bus routing for the corporation I work for. Much of the work is done online now but I travel on-site about 10-14 weeks a year to do one-on-one trainings. This trip will have me visiting 9 locations in 2 weeks and should br fun!

I like that pattern @jamethiel... The mitten looks very neat 😊
Interesting to hear about your geocaching... I've never tried it !
It can be a lot of fun, I find it anyway to explore areas when I'm on the road. Thanks!
I love the flip top mittens! I crocheted myself a pair last year and you're right...who needs a flip top thumb anyway! Enjoy your trip to Michigan...the weather should be tolerable by now!
Well so far it's definitely spring- there's no snow on the ground and everything's a little bit soggy. But very pretty, I'm looking forward to exploring more!
Good progress on your mitten! I agree, no need for a flip thumb. It’s working up nicely!! Enjoy your trip!!!! 😊
Thank you!
Check out those stylish mittens! Love the color!! You go, girl! And have a wonderful time on your trip. Happy #NeedleworkMonday to you, my dear!
Thank you!
Nice mittens.
What kind of needles have you been using, and have you had trouble at airports with them?
I haven't had any issues with knitting needles of any type in airports. They're pretty understanding about them. I did lose a nice pair of scissors right after 9/11 but they were a fairly big set and I don't really miss them as I moved on to something smaller. The small stork scissors that you can get it most sewing places are totally acceptable for flying, at least in the US.
The glove is excellent! I love the color!
And I love geocaching! We go out every Easter. We don't have an Arkansas badge yet, so we're going to stay with some friends down there and geocache with them this Easter. 😁
Thanks! Have fun in Arkansas! I geocached there about 6 summers ago. Ended up walking through a really brushy area and got a ton of ticks all over me. So be really cautious while you're out and about!
Ticks bites are the free souvenir offered to all visitors, and residents, of Arkansas and Missouri! I think they’re our state bug... :)
