NeedleWorkMonday - Sewing Class
Greetings All! Happy #NeedleWorkMonday Creatives! It looks like we have gotten back on schedule and are having sewing class every Friday. So today I have more to share with you on our progress!
As you see above my daughter is ready to move on with her second bear. She will be gifting this one to her cousin. First the stuffing...
She decided not to stuff this one as much as last time. She wants it to have some movement on it’s limbs for easy playing. I really liked her idea because we were able to move the arms and legs around easier. She’s already learning how to make observations from her sewing practice and come up with her own ideas! I love that!
My mom went over the running stitch with her and then left her to it...
Next bear step will be adding on the other face features and then finishing off with a ribbon :)
As for me I experienced a
WHAT WAS I THINKING
moment. Why why why was I trying to be ambitious and pick a project that calls for a zipper? My mom told me it was time to prepare for it. We had to get the bunting ready for the zipper.
After sewing up the very bottom we evenly folded back the open section to iron the hem down. This is going to be where we place the 22 inch zipper...
Here’s what it looks like from the front side...
I pinned it in place so it will remain ready for adding the zipper...
I couldn’t get much done because we were at my house instead of my mom’s. That means I had to tend to the kids while trying to sew. Ha ha I’m sure you can guess how crazy and challenging that was! 🤪
Okay needlers next class I will be sewing my first zipper! 😬 I would love to hear about your first time sewing one whether it be a good or bad experience.
That bear looks so cool, and how cool is that that she worked out for herself how by varying the amount of stuffing she changed the flexibility and feel of the bear
Good luck with the zipper ;)
I thought that was pretty cool too! I sure hope it comes easy for me, I’m nervous lol!
Thank you so much for your visit :D
Stay positive you can do it :)
I really appreciate the encouragement!!
keep at it and have fun :)
Will do! Thank you!
Ahhhhhh the zipper class! lol Oh my, I remember doing my first zipper, it was horrible and needless to say took me forever. Once you get the hang of it you'll be fine. That bear is darling, your daughter is doing so well with sewing. Love these posts @crosheille!
Lol! Oh goodness from what I’m hearing zippers are not our friends. It might take me several times to be comfortable with them.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your support ~ ♥️
If I had to do conventional zippers -- or constantly find patterns that didn't require them, it would probably put me off sewing completely -- and that's a shame because I love being able to make my own clothes, have something I know is truly one of a kind ---> and that I can have it fit my way.
(I'm such a control freak!!) ---> There, I said it, so you didn't have to. Stop thinking it now. Ok?
🤣 I appreciate your honesty!!!! ♥️
I did my very first zipper as a conventional zipper -- with a placket -- for my junior high school home ec class -- and I will never do another one. Not ever. The invisible zippers, however, are a godsend. They're easy. They're attractive. I used to sew a lot -- and I used them exclusively. If for some reason I ever find a project that won't let me use one ... forget it.
Good luck!
😂😂😂 oh goodness I so appreciate your honesty. It seems zippers are not so friendly. I’ll report how it went for me. Thanks so much for commenting! I’ll have to keep that in mind about the invisible zipper.
Invisible zippers are more expensive than conventional zippers -- about twice the price IIRC. And they need a special zipper foot, which is plastic, but it doesn't cost a lot and is easy to use -- and re-useable, of course. But they are worth every extra damn dime!!! ---> Plus, I really like the way they look much better than conventional zippers -- so that's a no-brainer for me!!
There are some garments -- like jackets where the zipper detaches at the bottom, and other pieces where the zipper is part of the style / decoration -- where they wouldn't work ... but I'm not into trying anything as fancy as that. (If your mom is able to do that sort of work ... and teach it ... wow, I might take classes from her!! )
Hmmmm I think I’ll be going out to look for these invisible zippers! I wish every pattern would call for them.
I’m with you on the fancy thing. I’m just keeping it as simple as possible for now. I’m sure my mom knows how to do those but I don’t want that lesson lol! 😅
The teddy is a absolute win! Looking cute and I am sure your daughter got a big confidence boost finishing it. It will be an amazing gift for her cousin.
And with the zipper... I am fairly sure I wrote this several times: zippers still scare me 😳 I have inserted about four into skirts and it is always by chance if it works well or not. So far I have not found a technique which works perfectly for me: I tried pinning and I tried taping it (with sellotape - a trick from a famous German YouTube sewist), both were okeyish. Next time I will baste it by hand and then sew it... hopefully this will work better for me.
I cross my fingers that your zipper works fine (not everybody has problems with zippers, perhaps you will be a natural zipper lover 😁)
Thanks so much! Her catching on to sewing has definitely boosted her confidence. Lol yes you have mentioned about them before. Wow you have tried quite a few methods. I hope we find one that works for me. Perhaps I could be a natural lover...we soon shall see! 😁
Zippers... Well, so far I have avoided them ;)

😅👍🏽
I always ask my friend who sews to do the zippers. :)
Can I send you some projects in hope you give them to your zipper-sewing friend pleasssssseeeeee 🙏🙏🙏🤪
Lol so hilarious!
Lol... she isn't currently taking commissions and I bet the price would be prohibitively high. 😁
@jamethiel and @crosheille .... I had hopes .... 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
😂 got ya!
Love the stuffed bear! And it really is nice that she is really into learning sewing that she's pitching in her ideas for the project. And I am excited to see how the zipper will turn out on your project. I remember the first time I trird sewing zipper into my bag. Oh wait. I don't want to remember it! LOL

Thank you! I really am so proud of her :) I’ll have to report to you all how the zipper trial went, I’m not in a rush to do it now after reading all the comments about it lol!
Thanks for the info!
Wow !!! what a wonderful funny bear will be !!!! when I see your baby sew it, it seems to me that it is easy)))) but I myself would hardly venture to do this. I really understand your feelings about sewing a zipper for clothes!!!!! I wish you success in this !!!!! :)
Awww thanks so much Tala! She’ll be happy to hear that! ☺️
Thanks so much! I hope I can catch on, we shall see!
se ve muy hermoso, como me gustaria hacer algo asi, te felicito
Muchas gracias! ¡Sé que puedes! 😉
I love that the bear is in floral print
And what a good idea to have the arms and legs a little mobile :)
Let's see zipper... I think the first time I sewed it on, I used the footer for it... it was easy enough... and it is.. don't be nervous ... you are going to do great... I am sure :)
I am really glad she picked floral this time, I really like it too!
Thanks so much! It’s nice hearing a positive about zippers. I think you might be the only one lol! 😅
Really? About the zippers....
Hmmmmm..... well will check back with you after you are done :)
Lol yes! Most comments state zippers are challenging. Some didn’t even want to recall their experience! Lol
Yes I will report back to you all...we shall see how it goes.
