Needle work & something good / 針仕事と恩返し

I'm happy to write a #needleworkmonday post on the 1st day of 2018 with a small idea to make the world a bit happier by sewing.

I went to last minutes shopping in the end of 2017 to buy some fabric to make pants for my daughter. Yes, again I sew baby pants ;) Since we will travel to Thailand, she needs pants with thinner fabric to prevent moskiitoo bites while keeping herself cool.

I don't know why but the width of fabric is wider here in Germany than those in Japan. So even I buy only 50 cm of a fabric, I can make two baby pants out of it. I started wondering I can do something good with another half of the fabric. For example, I make two same pants and give one to someone in need or sell it donation based at a free market, I also can make hairbands for adults and give them away in the same away etc etc. To give away pants, I have to work on the pattern right or make my own pattern though.

As I had nice time and received SBD last year on Steemit, I'm happy to work on something in return in my spare time this year. Hairband is a tiny tiny step but I may start it soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of small nice projects happen done by people benefited from crypto and blockchain related services in 2018 :)

Hi @akipponn! It is so nice to see you here on #NeedlworkMonday! I see that you said you sew baby pants. Wow! I can't wait to see your pictures in 2018 of the process you use to make them. It will be so much fun. Is the fabric sold by the meter in Germany? Here in the US, it is sold by the yard. This can be hard when using patterns. Are you using patterns? Thanks!

I thought about going to bed but when I see your profile text "Let's fill the blockchain with art, science and culture!" I couldn't help writing a reply :) Totally agree with you.
Yes, fabric is sold by the meter in Germany. I use a pattern I found on Etsy. It's my third time to use this pattern.

I would like to make a pattern by myself in the future like my grandma did.

Well the pants turned out adorable, and you did a great job! I would not have the first clue regarding the making of a pattern but I believe that you are going to have it figured out in no time at all. I'm so glad you like my message about art, science and culture. We are doing this every Monday with our wonderful #NeedleworkMonday group! So glad you are here.

I really love those baby pants that you sew up. I still plan to try a pair. I think it’s very wise to use your access yarn for other projects. Looking forward to seeing what you sew up for 2018! Thanks for sharing with us today!!

From my side thank you for hosting #needleworkmonday as always! I'm happy to be part of the community. And I wish success for your NICU baby hat crocheting project :)

Absolutely! It was really my desire to start a community such as this. I am so glad you are apart of it too and I am so thrilled to see it grow and grow. Thank you for your support! I really hope quite a few crafters join in on the project.

Talking about the baby pant, we don't need special sewing machine such as overlock sewing machine for sewing stretchy fabric. I just use my home use one for sewing. So it's easier to start than it appears :)

That’s good to know because I don’t have one of those special machines, just a basic one :)

The material is cute and it's a great skill to sew clothing for your children. So much nicer than store bought and one of a kind!

Thank you @anise! Sewing is one of my hobby and at the same time I want to sew her clothes to avoid those made by especially children, who can be her future friends. Of course I cannot be perfect but at least I try to make some using my spare time :)

so true, and something to really consider when shopping. Many of us forget the conditions under which much of our clothing is made. You are doing a good job...nobody is perfect for sure but the world need more people like you! 👍
