Do you know we can reuse a knitted piece by cutting and sewing? Yes we can! It was my first time to do so. I made my daughter's neck warmer out of her baby time blanket.

It was good old time when I was waiting my daughter's birth and knitting the blanket. The yarn is bio yarn died with natural material as I expected her to live with nature. I'm not sure she knows my wish but she likes to be in garden with me and interested in plants (as much as watching videos on YouTube!) ;)

The pattern is from Raverly.

Now it is too small for her and stored in our dresser recent years. When we moved into a new apartment, I found it and decided to reuse it. I had to be brave to cut it wishing it didn't break by cutting & sewing.

Luckily it worked. Seems my daughter likes it. I'm happy to see the blanket revives as a neck warmer :) Ja, good to be resourceful.

There's a technique called where you knit a sweater and make it onto a cardigan with steeking - cutting the front part in two halves. I want to try it but I'm not courageous enough ;)

Posted using Partiko Android

Sounds technically possible but I cannot be brave enough with sweaters I have now ... 😅

Yes!!! Me too! I have read the also cut the neckline and sometimes the sleeve openings. I would be so afraid to destroy the whole piece... If you ever decide you have the nerves to try steeking, please call in advance (for praying or sacrifices) and make a video 🙏

I'm thinking about making a cardigan for a toddler...

Posted using Partiko Android

This would be a clever decision (instead of knitting the bigger adult one with the possibility of utter destruction)

Cardigan for a toddler might work :)

I would have sweated blood! How did you cut the knitting? Did you made a crochet seam beforehand?
I am glad all worked out. The leaf pattern is lovely and it is even more beautiful on your daughter, I am convinced.

Nothing ... I just cut it with scissors wishing it doesn't break. I should have known the crochet seam technique in advance. I'll see survives this season worn by the active toddler 😅

Thanks c-squared!

This is brilliant! I actually cut a piece of crochet work before that I was unhappy with and watched it ravel away. Never thought about trying to upcycle a piece that way. Thanks for sharing about this. I’ll be keeping this in mind now that I am less afraid of sewing lol!

I love that you could still keep a special handmade item and make it into something she can wear today, how sweet! 😍🤗
