Curator Cat Enters: @phoenixwren's "Get To Know Your Nature" Photo Contest

Only came across this yesterday, so this is a bit of last-minute entry into @phoenixwren's "Get To Know Your Nature" photo contest.

Trying to impress judge Maggie here; enlisted the help of my Human for the photography, but all the "set design" is mine! We'll see how it goes.

So the basic idea of this contest is a sort of photographic "scavenger hunt" that requires getting and making a photo post with seven specific items. Here we go:

Number 1: White flowers. That one was easy enough — our summer jasmine is in full bloom at the moment, and not only is it very fragrant, the flowers happen to be white!

Number 2: Black Rocks. How the heck am I... oh wait, there are black beach pebbles in one of our potted plants (ostensibly to keep me from digging in the soil!), so I picked three, we made them wet and took a picture outside in the sun. Ended up looking a bit like a frog...

Number 3: Fruit, flowers or pine cones on a tree. That one solved itself while taking pictures of the white flowers. Turned out the salmonberry bush next to the jasmine has some fruit on it... including this particularly red berry... check!

Number 4: Vegetables (not on your plate). Got lucky with that one; my Human had to go to town to the bank today, so he stopped at one of our roadside farmstands and snapped this colorful picture. It's more interesting than wilted lettuce or a picture of broccoli.

Number 5: Sand or dirt. Well we've got that everywhere. I call this "Still Life with Pebble and Twig."

Some sandy dirt... and a pebble

Number 6: A canker or burl on a tree. Well, the closest to that we could find is this "eye" looking wound from an old branch cut on our rowan berry tree. Hope that will do.

Canker
A tree canker... or pretty close, anyway

Number 7: The Moon. Fortunately, there's a bit of latitude on this one, so I picked this one my Human took of a particularly bright full moon this winter; there was a bit of ice fog drifting around and it made for a cool effect.

And there you have it! With a little help, I have come up with the seven required items for the contest.

Now we just have to wait and see what Judge Maggie thinks!

It was a fun contest, and I quite enjoyed doing this. I think contests are a great way for newbies and those with small accounts still to get involved in the Steemit community.

Last, but certainly not least, here's the obligatory Curator Cat selfie... or to use more Steemian/blockchainish jargon, "Proof of Cat."

Have a beautiful day, everyone!
