Black Hole
Just fall into an article in astrophysics and remembered that I can't remember even the basics. Once again what is a black hole?
A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. An analogy that helps is to think of it as a star ten times more massive than the Sun squeezed into a sphere approximately the diameter of New York City. The result is a gravitational field so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape.
Ok we got the terminology but where do they come from??
Most black holes form from the remnants of a large star that dies in a supernova explosion. If the star is small the impact of its death won't be sufficient to trap light and it will result in a dense neutron star.
How did we find out about the black holes?? How did we spot them?
Actually a black hole can not be seen because strong gravity pulls all of the light into the middle of the black hole. But scientists can see how the strong gravity affects the stars and gas around the black hole. In simple words we see the effects of the black hole which in many ways are not easily ignored as they have a dramatic influence on the neighborhoods around them - emitting powerful gamma ray bursts, devouring nearby stars, and spurring the growth of new stars in some areas while stalling it in others.
Space sure is fascinating and we are making huge steps regarding its exploration and contemplation and black holes may as well be the greatest scientific mystery that has occured to the human mind.
I don't plan to post regularly about space or nature so you will be disappointed if you follow me (except you like philosophy and psychology as well) .
I would still appreciate the upvotes and the feedback.
