The concept of 'time': Why we can't get enough of something that doesn't really existsteemCreated with Sketch.

Time is THE number 1 currency traded in our modern society. The winners are the ones who deserve a small frame of our time reserve, they are the prioritized elite, the lucky ones who come first.

But what is time actually and what makes it so valuable?

The remaining future time is uncountable, what passed away is useless and the present isn't really available. The number one currency is not easily achieved neither determined.

The abstract concept of time

According to Google there are two valid definitions of time

1.- the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole

2.- a point of time as measured in hours and minutes past midnight or noon

That means that time can be seen either as a single instance or a fluent course of numerous actions.

Time is part of our lives from the very beginning

Our very first breath on Earth is the very first time stamp set: our birth DATE. One breath = one instance = one data. It's going to be saved forever in our life's database, tattooed on our DNA, unchangeable, undoubtable.

Our birth gives birth to our very personal calculation of times. And everything that follows is going to be related to that single moment.

Time is a concept which accompanies us from the very beginning. 'It's time to go to bed, honey.' 'Time for dinner.' 'Time to do our homework.' Time to sleep, eat, repeat.

Time provides us with rhythm, with routine.

Being a kid, it provides us with a certain stability, thus safety - an invisible comfort zone, supervised by mom and dad. Maybe the fact that we have no idea how much time is left for us, makes it actually so valuable.

How time determines our professional lives

'Sorry I haven't had the time to read your email.' 'Excuse me I got stuck in a meeting and ran out of time.'  'Please tell them I won't make it to the conference due to a lack of time.' 'I wish the day had more hours.'

Time is THE determining element of our day-to-day work, the perfect excuse and the number 1 of generally accepted explications for change.

'It took us some more time to finish the project, we'll have to increase the budget.'

Time is money!

Maybe that's THE reason why we appreciate given time as a special dedication: in business we can associate a calculable value with the concept of time.

Given time means given money means countable value.

An example: A meeting with the CEO means that he downgraded all the other people he could have met at the same time. The fact that he spent an hour personally listening to your presentation is another proof of priority

The value of your given time increases exponentially according to your power.

Time as a luxurious good

We count down time till Friday, till our next holidays - the 'holy days' -, till anything. We are jumping from one milestone to another, one finished project to the next one, one time frame to the following.

Our world has become a constant countdown, a ticking alarm clock, a time-driven rush. And what are we doing? We are running, panicking, from one end to the other, looking afraid on our smartphones´displays which indicate us if we are still on time, still within the given frame, the planning, the calculated approach.

Time has made us to become less human and more controlled. The fact that an abstract concept determines our day-to-day life is evidence enough.

Thus, possessing plenty of time and not being controlled means being a rich human being. Rich or wise. Or both.

'I get up when I am awake and go to bed when I am tired. I eat when I am hungry and drink when I feel thirsty,' were the words of an old man who lived next door in the village I was grown up. It was the answer given to my dad who asked him what his greatest achievement in life had been. I didn´t really understand what the old man meant. I was too little. From my today´s point of view I perfectly know.

Silence and time. What a wise healthy quote.
Don´t we all crave for a silent infinite moment sometimes? That moment when we just wanna stop time.

If you put 'time song lyrics' into Google, you´d currently get 60 million results! Sixty million. Time is something we constantly think, talk and even sing about.

This is my absolutely favorite song about 'time':

I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me

Time has become one of the most valuable achievements in our rushing modern world. In a certain way time has started to control us, our lives, our economy... our world. As a result we have become less human, less defining our own destiny and more responding to the need to constantly fulfill something within a determined time frame.

Time is luxury. If you don't know what to give your beloved ones, spend time with them.

I hope you enjoyed the read. Ah...and thanks for your 'time' :-)

Interesting! I've written about time in its relationship to distances in space. Primarily that it's irrelevant except on Earth as a convenience...to make sure we're where we're supposed to be. I never really looked at it in this context before. Here's my favorite Time! (Short version)

That´s a nice one, too!!! Thanks for sharing :)
Have you written about time here on steemit? Would you mind providing me with the link?

It was in an article I wrote about the fallacy of the Big Bang and the creation of the universe. I may have posted it here but in case I didn't:

Cool, I´ll have a look at it.
Every idea should be shared on steemit ;-))

Thanks...I may have posted it a long time ago...I don't remember.

Have you considered the amount of productive time you either add or subtract from the whole with your posts. Like this one maybe you prevented someone from working for 5 minutes and he had not gain.

But maybe you inspired someone to make better use of there time and do something awesome. The quandary's of life.

Since blogging means 100% fun to me, it definitely ADDS value (time) to my life's account :-) And if I could inspire others, well even better!
Thanks for stopping by!
