Red Ribbon (Clarkia concinna) - California wildflower
Clarkia concinna, commonly the Red Ribbon, is a California wildflower found in low elevations of mountains in the northern part of the state. Red Ribbon is in the Evening Primrose family and flowers May to June. I found these in the Morgan Territory Regional Preserve in a shaded canyon at between 1500 and 1600 ft above sea level. I was excited to learn the name of these exceptionally unique and beautiful wildflowers that are both native and endemic to California.

Additional photos showing shape of leaves and structure of plant. Notice the four red loops in the middle of the flower, like ribbon around a package. This is where the name comes from :)
This is one of a series of posts on native plants and wildflowers near my home in the San Francisco bay area. I was motivated by @mountianjewel to start getting to know my local ecosystem. I also took @mountainjewel's advice to visit the local library and check out some guides to local wildflowers :)
Amazing...I am in love with the flowers
They are very beautiful and unique. Thanks for visiting my blog
Thanks for your reply
Unusual flowers @steven-patrick.
Great idea to get some books from the library. I'm going to try and remember to do that next time I come to Devon. I find looking through books more fun than googling. 😊
Yes it is quite helpful. However there is a price to pay. Now I have some wildflowers that I really want to go find! as opposed to just figuring out what I randomly see on my walks haha
Ah well. You can do both @steven-patrick.
Give us a list of the ones you're looking for. I for one will be interested to see them if and when you find them. I like a good treasure hunt! 😊
