Photo Journey Through the Seasons - Wild Blossoms Found in the Boreal Forest. Part 2
Continuing through the seasons with the ever changing blooms in the Boreal Forest of Saskatchewan, Canada
I missed one of the first blooms in the spring in part one - it's the pussy willow which provides early pollen for the bees.
The white Avens are usually seen along the ditches. Fortunately the ditches along the gravel roads aren't sprayed (unlike the ditches along the paved road) so there is an abundance of wild flowers growing.
Another flower growing in the ditches along with the tiger lilies is the Bedstraw, named because it was so abundant and was used to stuff mattresses by the pioneers.
Looking down on the forest floor we have the tiny Twin flower.
Another flower gracing the forest floor is the flower of the Bear Berry plant.
The Labrador Tea plant is in bloom in the spring but it's leaves are evergreen and can be used all year long.
Close by the Labrador tea you will find the Bunch Berry flowers blooming.
Another interesting spring blooming flower is the Lungwort which first appears pink then opens into the lovely blue flowers.
You're welcome!

Beautiful, that first photo of the cat is priceless! It's so unbelievable that they spray the ditches at the paved roads, who in their right mind would not let these beauties grow!
Not only that but I live in a community with neighbors living on acreages that are fairly close to each other. Some of my neighbors that have come from the cities cut the grass, along with the wildflowers, in front of their property in the ditches - so strange! I love my wild flowers and seeing the different successions of blooms. Thanks for the comment of my cat. He was a wild cat who adopted us and he loves hanging out with me in the forest, where he's always so alert.
