Mangrove Environment

in #nature5 years ago

Good morning friends,

I previously said our mangrove ecosystem doing massive task for control coastal erosion via video conversation. So today I want to explain what's mangrove and how they help to protect our environment.

The mangrove is a unique tree that grows in the tidal areas of the river basin and lagoon, which borders the oceans and waters in the inter-tidal zone. The mangrove community is important as a home for some species of flora and fauna. About 2/3 of the coastal belt is occupied by the mangroves. All mangroves in the world are about 1 1/2 million hectares.

There are other plants that grow in the reclaimed areas adjacent to the mangroves. They are known as Mangrove Associates. True mangroves and mangroves are flowering plants and a species of non-acrosticum aureum is also found in mangroves.

Characteristics of mangroves

In many areas of the mangroves, the ground is tidal. As a result, some of these areas are covered with salt water at some time of the day. The salinity of these areas is not as high as the salinity of the sea, as freshwater flows into the river basins and lagoons, where mangroves are often found.
The pressure of soil solution of mangrove plants is higher than that of normal soil and soil solution.
The pressure and pH of the soil solution of mangroves vary from time to time. The soil is constantly flooded with water and there is a shortage of oxygen. Often the soil is black. It is abundant in organic matter and is home to several species of crabs.

Adaptation of mangroves

The flora of the mangroves has many adaptations that can withstand biological and environmental conditions.

The rootstock of the mangroves is a prime example of the root roots of the mangroves. Because the soil is very loose, these early varieties help to make the plant a hard, loose substrate.
In aerobic mangroves, oxygen is scarce in the soil, so the knee roots that rise above the soil are transferred to the air. Also found in the arachnid plants.
Staying in the mother plant until a later stage of germination.
Water is difficult for plants to obtain because of the high concentration of salts in the arid mangroves. Therefore, to reduce transpiration, there is a thicker symmetry of the leaves and more water in the tissue.
The first germinated shrimp seedlings float through the water and remain in the soil.

The mangrove community in Sri Lanka is comprised of true mangroves and related mangroves. Accordingly, about 17 major mangroves have been identified. The mangroves surrounding the island of Sri Lanka cover an area of 10,000 hectares.
