Do It For Forest: Hypnotic bird

in #nature8 years ago (edited)

Zosterops senegalensis (African yellow white-eye) Many a (non)ornithologist succumbs to the bewitching look of this West African bird. His almost magically hypnotic expression lasts exactly a mere 0.025 seconds and it was therefore necessary to have my weapon, Nikon D80, thoroughly prepared. The White-eye uses this ability to hunt its prey. One such look at its food and the immediately impressed insect flies voluntarily into the bowels of the crafty hunter. How did it learn this method of hunting, and why are some capable of it and others not?
