The original post is incorrect. Once the top roots the average time is over 2 years for it to fruit again. The future slips will come from the parent and those can flower and fruit in as little as one year.
Your so lucky to have a climate for that, Pineapple my favorite fruit.
I know. Who knows how long I'll be here. Life takes us here and there. But for now. It's great. It's a small yard but I've planted 5 avocados, 4 coconut trees, 4 papayas, 2 banana groves, 2 lemon trees, 2 fig trees, 3 pineapples and am planting 3 more and a grapefruit. The neighbors say it look like a farm. :>)
I've done the same, but no fruiting. In a zone 6, it had to go inside to dry heat, but growing well again. 2nd year, in a pot. I found a 'Costa Rica' variety, smaller fruit and dense Compact top. I'm interested in what the differences in habit will be. Your pic inspired me to keep trying!
Actually it takes more than 1 year for fruit. about 2 1/2 actually. But then the fruit gorws really fast. It's amazing becushe there is hardly anything I would consider a "plant". and this big beautirul pineapple just appears like out of nowhere. then there all these little side shoots that can be separated from the mainplant and planted to make new pineapple plants. I'm getting ready to do that now. I've heard these side shoots grow and fruit more quickly. Good luck with it,. Patience. the small pineapple when it starts form is very prickly . DO NO TOUCH IT. I learned the heard way. It's very pretty actually. Covered lots of little purple flowers. Goodluck. Keep me posted on the progress. :>)

One fruit per plant. Future slips will grow off the adult. Plant those and they fruit much sooner than the parent plant. The original post implies planting the top of a pineapple fruits in a few months. In truth about 2 and half years for maturity and fruiting.
Yes. It was a couple of years. thanks for the tip on planting the slips. There are a bunch of them and I didn't know what to do with them.
If you'll separate and plant those slips toss in some Osmocote and/or Foliage Pro they'll grow so fast it's about amazing. How ever many you plant is how many pineapples you'll have next summer and much larger pineapples than the top will produce. You're just at the stage now to really grow some beasts ;) I have a video about 511 soil mix shared here and it's a real good mix for the pineapples. Maybe add a bit more compost or rich soil to create it closer to a 521, either way will work just fine. The pine bark adds the drainage and acidity they need.
