This magnificent waterfall is located in the Canaima National Park, in the state of Bolívar, in southern Venezuela. In the western sector of the park is the Auyantepuy which is one of the best known tepuyes (the tepuyes are the immense mountains with the top flat as a table). From this tepuy is born El Salto Angel, which is the largest waterfall in the world, with about 979 meters of free fall.

Angel Falls owes its name to the man who discovered Jimmy Angel , was an American aviator and adventurer, who saw for the first time this jump in 1933 with his partner, while searching for the legendary Rio de Oro, or the Golden City. Jimmy returned in 1 937 with his wife and his friend Gustavo Enrique Gardener, after flying over the top of Tepuy he had to make an emergency landing at the top of the Auyantepuy .
