Laulasmaa beach and SUP makes a wonderful day

in #nature6 years ago

On a recent weekend, @raili and I struggled with the eternal question - How to spend the day? Luckily, when the weather is actually warm and fine, your options explode.

Summers are brief and not always hot around here, so if possible, people tend to hit the beaches, forests, anywhere outdoors, as soon as possible.

This time was no different, so we fueled the car and hit the road. It's a 30 minute drive to get out of the city and reach Laulasmaa, not too far. After a few shopping breaks for cold beer and snacks for the beach we reached our destination.

Success! The beach can be seen through the woods. Well, not so much the woods, but the small strip of pines, distinctive to the beaches of Laulasmaa.

If the beach is too hot for you, but you still desire to sink your feet in the hot sand, you can hike under the trees.

But this is not why we came here. We're looking for some water activities. Namely, we want to try SUPping on the sea. SUP - stand up paddleboard - is something we enjoy on the mainland lakes, as the waters are calm and warmer there, but trying it out on the sea is different.

Far away i can see that @raili is ready to go already while I am still stumbling around in the woods.

As she reaches the water I see her handling that paddle like a ninja.

The water is suprisingly warm, feels 18 C or a bit more. For you warmer climate types, this is probably cold water, but for us northerners, we're lucky if we get it.

So falling in the water is not a problem. This time, we cannot go to deep though, as quite newbies to this, waves in the deeper water tend to knock us off our generic boards. So we paddle around in waist deep water for this time. One must beware of the rocks in the water there, though, as falling off might hurt you.

Although the weather is warm and so is the water, the beach is not too crowded.

Even the volleyball court is free for a moment.

We return our loaned SUP boards and retire to the beach, to lay in the sun and enjoy a cold one (surprisingly cold still).

Here's also a mandatory toe pic for you. Yep, these are my masculine and sexy toes. @raili always says that I can fit another toe in that gap there, but I think she is wrong - I can fit at least two.

Altogether, SUP-ping in the open water is enjoyable. Will come soon again.
