Last Week He RESCUED - Now He EVACUATES!

in #nature7 years ago

He had just returned from Houston

providing aid to those hurricane victims there. Upon returning home to the Florida Keys, my son had to immediately start putting a plan together to save himself from the impending doom of Hurricane Irma!

Fortunately for him

everything he owns will fit in and on his truck. Every single possession was packed in, stacked on and pulled behind that massive Ford pickup truck.

The plan

for now is to head up to the central part of Florida to hang out with friends, then perhaps after that just wave goodbye to Florida in the rearview mirror. Head back to Texas to be with family for a time until that next adventure calls.

I'm just glad he had the proper perspective in this case to LEAVE! Whereas some of his friends are choosing to stay behind in the Florida Keys to ride it out. I pray those concrete walls they are depending on hold.

I wish our family in Florida were taking this as seriously. Perhaps it's the developing prepper in me, but my feeling is take things seriously and if they don't end up being serious, you haven't lost anything - or at least not as much as you might've!

Oh wow, that's an incredible story. We've been watching the news here in Australia and our thoughts are with you all. I'm happy to hear your son packed up and left. Life is so much more precious than possessions.

These storms are no joke. Stay safe.

You bet! This one is HUGE!

Shared to show one of @daddykirbs kids using his head!

I was just reading that "potentially" the storm surge (level of water above normal) could be 28 feet! I've spent some time in the Keys and there isn't much there that could stand against water coming up that high. I do pray that those of his friends that chose to stay behind are high enough to avoid any losses.

This time ;)

I'm sure    it would be a real hardship to have him hanging around the house again :-)

Super glad he bugged on out. Central Florida might not be buggy enough ... no wait it's always buggy! always! ok it may not be bugged out enough? O.o far enough away.

I'm married to a disaster relief focused man. I'm thinking your son may get bit by the rescue bug again and stay down there until he's beyond exhausted. Hopefully he'll just leave at "exhausted" not beyond it.

So glad your son decided to get outta' Dodge.

Glad to hear he's safe!
