More Photos of the Forest Coming Alive in Spring [Nature]
Walk with me...
Spring time is amazing to behold.
Take a look at the rest of my forest #photo #adventure this past week.
In a #dark and #shady old growth forest, mostly all I could find were old trees with moss and ferns growing on them, and it would be easy to assume that everything was dying from the cold winter that passed. Not true.
I used to love comedic #horror films, and one of my favorites was Beetlejuice.
One scene from that movie will always stay locked in my mind when Otho, an occult art brat, reads from the Handbook for the Recently Deceased to perform a seance designed to exercise dead spirits into a dimensional cross-over.
The words he recites turn out to be the most epic poetry in movie history.
Hands vermillion / start of five
bright cotillion / raven's dive
nightshades promise / spirit's strive,
to the living / let now the dead...
come alive.
As sudden thunder / Pierces the night;
As magic wonder / Mad affright
Rives asunder / Man's delight:
Our ghost, our corpse and we
Rise to be.
As flies the lizard / Serpent fell;
As goblin vizard, / At the spell
Of pale wizard, / Sinks to hell;
The buried, dead, and slain...
Rise again.

#Beetlejuice - Enjoy the pivotal scene.
So let's take a look at what the dead things in the forest have been up to lately.
Shall we?
Sentinel trees slumbering in #peace.
Morning wakes the young #ferns. The #conifers stand vigilant.
#Moss and #lichen decays the old and weakly limbs or forgotten limbs.
It scatters across the land, like bones in a graveyard of an ancient battlefield.
Not #dead.
Dormant.
The #mossy blanket undulating in the soft light, warms the hard sap slowly pulsing through this slumbering giant.
The forest of the past is gone.
Oregon Grape (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahonia_aquifolium)
Making way for the new.
Everything on the banks is dried out like #straw.
Inside the still #waters, new life takes form.
A broken #ladder.
Frozen in time.
The #oak trees will begin where they left off, on their quest to capture the sun's #golden treasures.
Thick #thorns that gave up on life, not long ago.
Were given a second chance. Now they are stronger for it.
#Shadow #spirits holding me back.
From seeing the brighter #truth beyond my reach, yet within my sights.
Times have changed.
#Gentle reminders of the past amidst the moments we live in.
Today is a new #day. Anything is possible.
The #swampy marsh pond is still and #quiet.
#Marsh plants nearby are thriving with abundant #fruits.
Or perhaps #rotting away.
As the strongest #roots feed last year's most promising new #branches.
Few creatures would dare to trench through this fallow #swamp.
It is the #sanctuary guarded by ents, dryads, and water nymphs.
The half-buried #rock.
Beside the tree with the tunnel #roots.
A carved image on the stone, only visible for those who might venture near.
A playful motif? Or perhaps a warning.
A forgotten hieroglyph, only known by the ancient one who chiseled it.
Butter, honey popcorn #scented #tree #blooms, open their concession stands for bees and birds.
A tree plunges its fingers into the earth with the strength of a Titan.
The old swamp transforms into #meadows.
The foot of this recently lost tree is now a gravestone.
Is a #peaceful reminder in the growing #landscape.
With an array of #dazzling powers.
Joyful spring #butterfly shaped #leaves.
Broken and defeated, the #rose bush did the best it could do.
And gave back sweet gifts of food so the birds would not starve when times got hard.
#Scenery changes.
For the rush of new populations to arrive.
The perfect camping ground.
With fresh cut firewood not far away.
#Toadstool dots along the bark of this nursing log.
Greens of tomorrow are overtaking the blacks and browns of yesterday.
The blackened #birch, #diseased by a #plague or borers, now blends into the #fungi filled forest floor.
A goblet of vintage forest wine.
The #wild lands will always be waiting.
Farewell, and return again.
