Portal Jumpers: Grab some Herbs, and let's Go! Response to @naturalmedicine's Survival Medicine Contest

Dear friends, tomorrow we will be gone.

We don't know when or if we will ever be back. We don't really know where we are going, another world, another realm, another time ...we just don't know. We never know. When you're a portal jumper, not knowing is part of the deal.

If you find this notebook, please read it carefully. You should know what you are getting into before you decide to follow us.

Where should I begin? I think I'll start by going back to last week, when I found it. I'd been foraging and exploring the woods. Portals were the last thing on my mind, as it has been so long since I've seen one.

IMG_0295.jpg

While foraging in the woods, I felt a familiar vibration, like bees and butterflies in my belly. A portal? Oh my goodness, please let it be a portal, I'd thought. Musical songbirds and chimes filled my ears, and I knew I was close to one.

IMG_0389.jpg

I decided to go back and get my husband before searching any further. I leaned up against the tree to rest for a moment before heading back to the cabin. As my arm rested upon a beautiful mossy tree, the buzzing and twinkling became explosive and in a dizzying moment I felt myself falling backwards.

IMG_0316.jpg

With a loud thud, I landed on the ground. I'd found a portal!

I stood up and cautiously looked around. I was no longer in my forest, though the same lovely mossy tree stood behind me. This was good: it meant I could go back and get my husband. Falling through was a rookie mistake. I could have ended up in a one way portal, unable to return. After looking around for a few moments I passed back through the portal. I was relieved to see the familiar forest and log cabin.

IMG_0324.jpg

I raced back to the house, my heart pounding and my head spinning with excitement. We'd been searching for a portal for two years. I tore open our front door, hollering "Honeeey come quickly, I found one!"

After a quick exchange of words, we ran back out to the mossy tree. Xwalkran placed both hands on the mossy bark. He could hear the chimes, and could feel the warmth, and his hands passed through the tree. Everything would work! But before leaving, we needed to pack.

IMG_0392_01.jpg

As we discussed the journey, Molly and Mischa ran past us and leaped through the tree, happily! How long have they known the portal was here?!

IMG_0382.jpg

We hurried back to the cabin and packed our few belongings. Portals are inconsistent and can stay open for hours, days or weeks. I am so sorry that we can only spare time to write this short letter. I hope you'll understand that we had no choice but to pack quickly and make the jump.

If you decide to follow us, it is important to know that you won't be able to take anything unnatural with you. Plants, herbs and natural fibres cross through perfectly so please select your items carefully. I will bring three natural medicines with me to help us though the next journey.

IMG_0406.jpg

I took the jar of eucalyptus. My apologies if you were hoping to find some. Eucalyptus is a powerful respiratory aide and one of the best natural remedies I have found to alleviate asthma. It is also anti fungal and antibacterial and can help with skin issues, as well as disinfect surfaces. It is helpful as an insect repellent, for stress relief, dental hygiene and as an aide for muscle pain and small wounds, insect bites and other minor skin problems.

This will be very useful to me and as you know, I use it often.

IMG_0398.jpg

I also took some arnica. Don't worry though, there is plenty on the shelf for you. Arnica will help to alleviate burns, sprains and the aches and inflammation in our joints. I think it might also be useful in the event of trauma. This sort of lifestyle can be physically difficult and I think this will be valuable to us.

IMG_0397.jpg

I've also taken some St. John’s Wort. We'll use it to sooth our nervous system and regulate the hormonal balance of our bodies if we end up in a situation that is overwhelming. This is an occupational hazard when you are a nomadic portal jumper.

IMG_0399.jpg

My bag is packed and I leave this place with a sentimental heart. We've grown fond of the forests, the birds, the oceans and lakes, but some things about this place scare us. We don't understand the use of chemicals, the destruction of natural resources or the hunger that plagues so many that live here. We'll keep jumping until we find that place that calls for us to stay.

IMG_0412.jpg

IMG_0414.jpg

As soon as I seal this letter, we'll head out into the woods with our furry companions by our side and bid this place and time adieu.

Goodbye friends and remember, if you decide to find the mystical tree and enter the portal, bring only natural things with you. The entities that guard the portal are easily angered.

May we meet again some day.

This post is in response to @naturalmedicine's Survival medicine contest where we are asked: What would be your 'survivor' natural medicines?

This challenge asks you to look carefully at your natural medicine first aid kit and ask: what plants or other natural remedies would be the best ones in a survival situation? You can only choose three. Of course there needs to be a creative story to go with it.

Contest entries are due November 10th so there's still plenty of time to enter!!

Very very cool! Thank you for an awesome story. I was completely in it... I love that you had Molly and Mischa run passed through the same portal as though they already knew of its existence, good job story telling!

I'd follow along for sure , portal jumping sounds fun

Well, I couldn't leave out my two fur babies. They are the best sidekicks a girl could ask for. Thanks for coming along on my little adventure! :)

It was really fun. One day we'll habe a couple fuzzy sidekicks again! I think it will be really fun for my son too

Awesome @walkerland

Thanks @annephilbrick it was a lot of fun to put together, something out of my comfort zone forsure!

Thank you so much @curie! This was such a motivational boost for me this week. I sincerely appreciate the support.

Oh!
Great entry witch lol
I'd seen your profile, you're a kitchen witch, what do you cook?
Sorry for that question, I'm just curious.

Anyways, I like the thrill in your post or your story.
It made me think what portal was that?

By the way, I like doing the natural thing and natural medicine is one of those things.

Hi @ronel, thanks for reading my post! I appreciate it. If you like natural medicine you might be interested in looking up @naturalmedicine, a lot of people are writing wonderful posts about natural health there. Also, there is still time to enter this contest if you are feeling inspired! :)

We grow most of our own food and cook according to that. We also make a lot of our own things like vinegar, wine and natural remedies using the things that grow around us. I've got all kinds of recipes on my blog.

I think I have to bookmark your profile for my reference. I also want natural foods as well.
But there are as well complexity on natural recipes. I guess I need a simple one?

Like seasonings, there are a combination of herbs to mix and some of those herbs are not found here in our place. Simplicity really matters to me. Maybe a mix of two herbs would be fine for seasoning, is there any of that kind?

I know what you mean, some natural recipes ask for speciality ingredients that are not easy to find. We just cook food that is fresh, healthy and local - I think you are right that keeping it simple is best.

I remember the saying "simplicity is the ultimate of sophistication," is that right?
I could not really explain that saying any further.
Now a days, people likes easy, light, simple and comfortable. Seldom we see people wants to suffer. Even with just a headache, people easily get irritated.

What a refreshing a beautiful post! And the photography with the story line is amazing. Awesome !!

Thank you for reading it @thethreehugs, It was such a lot of fun to put together. I really hope more people are inspired to enter - some of the other entries are really brilliant. You can find them under the tag @naturalmedicine.

A nice and interesting approach to sharing knowledge. In an artful way. Thank you for your post!

Thanks @manoldonchev, I appreciate that you took the time to read it.

What a beautiful entry to the contest! I love love love that you took photos to accompany your stories. It is perfect! You selected the best tree for this story. It looks magical and so healthy. Perfect to transport the jumpers. I'm glad that you found one that was able to transport you back as well. Imagine that you would not be able to see your husband anymore...

I like the stuff that you took with you. You gave it a lot of careful thoughts before taking them. I think you will cover all unexpected pains and issues that you might get in a new place. I hope you have jumped back in time to the land without all those chemicals and things destroying our planet. But I wonder if you have internet connection and if you will be able to answer my message :D

Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest! I like your innovative idea for this entry :)

This is my favourite tree and I think the whole story came from my thinking about the forest and issues we've been having with loggers lately. I realized after we got started that I should have picked a bigger tree because I really had to squeeze myself tight to disappear behind it (lol).

Thanks for the nice comment and holy smokes, thank goodness we found a computer and internet, impossible to live without those. ;)

Hahaha, you fit behind the tree perfectly :)

So it means that you either didn't try to far in the past or your traveled in the future :D I'm glad for you! ;)

Lololol where is that mossy tree? Love this one @walkerland thu
I still have to read the zombie one😊😋

This comment was made from https://ulogs.org

Thanks @immarojas! The zombie one is soooo good! I still giggle when I think about it. I watched it three times and loved every moment. I wont say anything about it and spoil things but I do recommend checking it out! :)

I definitely will! it's just that i got no clue of my plot and the zombies will just kill anything i wanna start writing lols...i was tempted to not even read yours haha

oooh, I really hope you write one. I've enjoyed reading every single entry so far. Each one is really unique and special. :)

Ive not read all but i have time after doing mine. Am keeping tab on the date haha

Okay, at first, I thought it was gonna be a story about how we all are gonna die someday. Lol! Little did I know it will be a story about how you are gonna find the portal and well, migrate through it...😀

What realm did you come from before this one?😂😀 oh, you have no idea? Lol!

I love this week's style, this is the second entry I am reading and it's so so cool (the first I read had a little or maybe more to do with dragons, read it?😉) I love how creative you got adding a bit of adventure and fantasy to it. You are quite creative... Now, i need to go look for a portal, there could be one nearby, could be lucky just as you were... Lol!😀

I love how you went all out for this entry — the costume, the tress, etc. You found the right atmosphere and captured your photos which complimented the story really nicely. Now, I can't imagine reading the story without the photo. Its a match made in heaven!! Lol

All the remedies you chose sure should be a staple for everyone, great choices. And Arnica, I had no idea it could help with trauma. Know a bit of science behind it?

I love how you didn't only talk about taking survival medicines but you also talked about protecting the environment in the end. It such a thrilling yet informative story...

yes! The story with the dragons was really awesome! I am loving this contest and all of the entries have been a pleasure to read. A few were based on true life stories which I really appreciated.

I am not much of a story writer but I had fun - I hope there are more entries because I've really enjoyed seeing the creativity coming out of this challenge.

Wow! I guess this little twist gave more room for creativity and "outside the box" thinking. I would love to go through most of the posts, especially those that tell true life stories.

You are not much of a story teller? Well, i must say that you did an amazing job for someone who isn't much of a story teller.

ahhh ... thank you. :) I appreciate the encouragement. It was a wonderful exercise and I am really glad that I took part. It's such a neat way to discover and reveal more about yourself.

I am more than fascinated with your story, excellent history and excellent natural medicines chosen to accompany your trip.
