Urine powered tomatoes: my journey to grow in the UK

I have been living in rented accommodation this Summer in the UK with no vegetable patch to play with and the knowledge that I left Sabrina in France with a huge vegetable patch and no man to help her!

There was at least a very under-loved greenhouse outside my temporary home in Yorkshire and I was determined to make the best use of it.

It took a fair bit of work.

IMG_4789_90_91_tonemapped.jpg

I had to re-locate a little bees nest which broke my heart, but there was no other way.

After cleaning everything up I bought two french varieties of tomato.

It was important that I bought them as mature plants because I started late in the year. Ideally one would plant them as seeds taken from the best fruit of the previous year.

IMG_4786_7_8_tonemapped.jpg

I found adequate tubs for them and mixed in some horse manure with any scraps of soil I could find from around the area.

I also planed basil and mint, the two herbs I use most in salads and smoothies.

IMG_1649.jpg

It didn't take long for them to sprout into life, growing at an incredible pace.

They quickly overtook one side of the greenhouse, even with my vigorous pruning.

There were hundreds of green tomatoes at one point and the horse manure no longer seemed to be giving them the boost they needed.

Urine for nutrients

I did a lot of reading on urine last year and learned how it is not a waste product at all but an important feedback fluid, full of all the great nutrients our body can't deal with in that moment.

If you don't fancy drinking your first nutrient filled pee of the day (which I highly recommend you do) don't waste it and at least feed it to your vegetables. Permit the natural cycle to continue.

The first pee of the day should be watered down with one part urine, ten parts water... and you're good to go.

They clearly loved it.

IMG_1689.jpg

I particularly enjoy that my tomatoes are a part of me now ;)

IMG_1648.jpg

In the end, the only thing I paid for was the plants (£5 for two).

For the last month I have been eating one or two a day. Usually in a salad or sandwich which incorporates my other recent obsession, sprouting.

From this..

To this...

The bread is locally made and the lettuce locally grown.

Perfection ;)

What's good about tomatoes?

Tomatoes are the major dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to many health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. They are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K
Nutrition Facts and Health Benefits

And they taste great!

Final point

I feel a sense of urgency with my growing exploits these days. Times are changing quickly as we move deeper into the Grand Solar Minimum and the terrible growing season in the farm belt of the US this year (and numerous other regions around the world) is going to have an effect on the price of the remaining food.

So be sensible... collect seeds and learn to grow your own.

This will soon become the most important skill you could have.

I have been making use of the local apples & berries in my daily smoothie and my body has been on good form.

Coz that's how it works folks. Let food by your medicine.

Love & Light everyone 🙏🏻

Food IS Medicine. Anyways, most commercial fertilizers contain Urea anyways, which is one of the waste products which makes up urine. So yeah, it works 😊

Face products contain urea too. Never made with human pee though. I was able to persuade my partner to wash her face in her morning pee and she was blown away by how much more effective it was than her face cream. We have been hoodwinked for the sake of profit. Urine is an amazing liquid.

Tomatoes are especially important for men, as they help reduce peeing problems from prostate problems. This is why it is important you plant extra tomatoes for making your own tomato puree and tomato sauce with some green pepper, onion (be inventive) and, if you hve not tried it, make some tomato jam (how about a little sugar but mostly honey as sweetener? If you do not put any, it will taste more like tomato sauce.

Always use low heat. I only let mine simmer - and that makes it much more tasty.

As for food for the future days of starvation. You are in an area where you are surrounded by others who are also growing their own. If you do so in a town or city, even if in a fairly well to do area, do not grow anything in public and never boast or show your neighbours. Once they are hungry enough, they will no longer be your neighbours....

Have you made pot-holders for cooking? They look like quilts. You bring your stew (for example) to a boil, place the pot inside a nicely tight-fitting holder, bring over the quilted top cover and leave it for 1 to 1.5 hours. The food keeps on cooking, without you need to use a lot of fuel.

As always this is such a wealth of great information!

I have in this moment decided to create a discord group or perhaps a steem account? Basically I would like somewhere to post this kind of info so that others are more likely to find it.

I recently added a great PDF (Survival and Austere Medicine 3rd ed) to your already extensive collection of documents and will, if you don't mind, make this collection available through the page I create.

There are so many people in the world who would benefit from having access to this stuff.

Let us Survive & Thrive together!

Of course I would be happy to see the information be passed on to as many people as possible.

If you do not mind, I will go off at a tangent for a moment, so as to illustrate how I feel.

It has long been Maritime Law that when life is in danger, at sea, neither race nor religion is to play a role; only that a human life is in danger and can be saved.

So, I may hate parts of human society, not because of what they believe, but because they do not respect the rights of others to believe as they wish - many of them do so as a form of control.

Such lack of respect can lead to war and when it does, then we lose sight of what is important to us, in a moral sense, because of survival of our loved ones becoming more important.

However, when faced by natural disasters, then the same Maritime Law should/must apply. We have to do all we can to save every single life.

If anything I've said or done helps you save a few lives, I will feel proud and grateful that you allowed me to help.

What do you think about @survival-archive as a name for the account?

Sounds okay, but first is needed a site where the documents can be held for easy download. I had beenintending to load them into groups as torrents, but it seems a lot of people do not know how to download torrents. Still, I might do it so as to have a permanent backup available.

There could be a torrent option but as you say, most people still just want the 'click here to download PDF' button!

Let me have a chat with some friends about this. Am sure it is possible without spending money.

Are you thinking such 'site' should also allow up[loads of PDFs on survival?

That's not a bad idea actually. More food for thought...

Take a look at this (they never delete):

https://help.archive.org/hc/en-us/articles/360001820212-How-to-upload-scanned-images-to-make-a-book

(they have the option of you upping as .pdf)

I had a look at the site and have bookmarked it for future use as no doubt there are a bunch of amazing books there.

Will spend a few days going through it. For now it seems a bit complicated while I am busy with so many other things going on around me!

We had some great news yesterday regarding Luna:
https://steempeak.com/joy/@samstonehill/mri-confirms-luna-s-brain-has-no-abnormalities-and-we-can-breathe-welcome-a-sigh-of-relief

I have just taken the time (on another sleepless full moon night!) to fully digest your words here. And you are quite right of course. My english grandfather was a naval man who served in WW2 and he used to talk of Maritime Law with the same respect.

I however do not hate the parts of society who believe it is their right to control us. And should they happen to stumble upon a steem blockchain archive of useful survival information, I hope it helps them too :)

The one technical problem I've not yet solved is where to host the download folder. Let me look into that...

Lucky to have that greenhouse.

I am using mine to the max to try to get a few extra weeks of growing season. And trying a few things I wouldn't normally grow in a greenhouse like beetroot and peas just as an experiment.

The greenhouse has been such a blessing. My chill zone.

Great work trying out new things in yours. With the shortening growing seasons things like greenhouses will be important, though I'm not sure how they would hold up to an intense hail storm?

Once I'm done with this job in the UK I'm going all out on our land in France. Can't wait to REALLY get my hands dirty.

I was reading about urine therapy recently. I am interested but weirded out of course. I pee on as much as I can even though my elders say I will kill plants. I like the fact urine helps keep the critters away.

Posted using Partiko Android

Undiluted urine will kill most plants. One part pee, ten parts water.

It is a very interesting subject which has been hidden from us for a long time. Our conditioning makes it weird for us, but in the animal kingdom, urine drinking is normal.

Great work mate. Who would think urine was so useful. I have some soil that can use fortifying. 1/10 ratio dilution, correct?

1/10 yes, but I would add that there is a little more to it than this. I only feed them my pee when my diet has been good. If I have an Indian take-away for example (which does happen on occasion!) my pee looks wrong the next day and my instinct says the plants won't like it. So, quality pee only ;)

OK. No take away food in diet. I usually eat homemade fuits and vegetables. I do eat fish like salmon or flounder 3 times per week. I hope this will make them happy. Your tomatos looked great!

Thanks for sharing this. I agree that growing healthy food and being a producer will become more important. It's also really fun and when done with awareness can be a very peaceful and meditative part of the day.

My tomatoes have brought me so much pleasure here this summer! It is true. A meditative part of the day.

You seem like the type of person who would be on board with permaculture food forests. In case you aren't familiar, I really like @gardeningchannel's work and videos. Take a look!

Before France we lived for two years in an eco community in Bali where they taught me much about permaculture. Incredible to see. I guess you know already ;)

The monkeys were our biggest problem!

We had to make a section of food forest which was just for them ;)

My focus these days is on being able to quickly up roots and move. I don't trust hungry humans. The key to long term survival will be in recognising edible food and using our land skills wherever we are.

I will take a look at @gardeningchannel right now however! Coz there is always more to learn...

The direction that I feel most drawn to is community with like-hearted people. I say this instead of like-minded because often people's minds are driven primarily by their ego. It is my feeling that heart centered unity consciousness is what will enable a community to be successful, especially if things get "bad" out there. I also see it as an alternative way of living that can potentially be established now and may offer a possible path for people to choose.

Another friend of mine was thinking about Bali as a possible location to set something up. Would you mind sharing the name of the village where you lived? If not here, you can reach me at: dontmindwhathappens "at" gmail.com.

We'll see where this adventure takes us, my friend.

Taman Petanu Eco Neighbourhood is well and truly on the steem blockchain already ;) I posted about it daily the whole time I was there.

Truly a special place, overlooking a sacred river valley. Many energies there.
IMG_7007.jpg

There are still a few plots available within Taman Petanu and we may yet return to buy one of them. Crypto willing!

My concern with Bali is the ring of fire. There is a connection between grand solar minimums and heightened seismic activity in the southern hemisphere. Mount Agung erupted while I was there and even just the small amount it spewed meant constant masks and plastic on all the windows. Cannot imagine how it would be if it had been a big eruption.

Still, there are many strong HEART communities in Bali, particularly around Ubud. And I don't know the future! Only what I have learned so far ;)

Thanks. Always good to hear a personal perspective.

✌Piss on earth you have.😎

Haha! The earth doesn't mind ;)

In fact, the earth love it!

Earth love piss.
We love peace. :-)
