RE: The Travelling Rosemary Bush - Original True Story
Love the story of the travelling rosemary bush!
How fortunate you are that you live in a climate that you can grow them outside as the true perrenial that they are.
I love rosemary and each year I buy a plant and it is growing into a big healthy plant in a container by the end of fall so I bring them into our sunroom for the winter. Alas, we don't get enough light over the winter for the sun doesn't come over the tree tops so by late winter the rosemaries usually give up the ghost. But not this year for we invested in grow lights and now we keep our garden growing indoors all winter, including the rosemary!
Thank-you for sharing this lovely story and lessons learned from nature!
@Porters Thank you! :)
How cold do your winters get?
The Rosemary Bush I received has survived several years of cold Luxembourg winters outside in the ground with temps dropping regularly well below freezing point.
There are several cultivars of rosemary and some are super hardy.
There is a variety called Rosemary "Arp" which is a smaller one I have in the garden planted this year, which is also a frost hardy cultivar.
Winters here from october until february is basically no sun at all, grey through and through, december-january-february usually averages at just about freezing 0°C up to -20° C on those real nasty winter days.
Here is a link to the frosthardy rosemary cultivar, might be able to find one for your garden ;)

It drops to - 30 even -40 degrees C. so the only way I can keep a rosemary bush is in a pot and bring it indoors. This year i invested in grow lights so I can keep my herbs (and vegetables) growing through the winter.
Thanks for the info though!
