Liquor medicine of machacaca or blind snake

in #naturalmedicine6 years ago (edited)
Hi Steemits friends, the plants have an immense power to heal, but if I tell them that in my town besides the plants, a natural remedy is elaborated using as a base a rum, a snake and a lot of spirituality.

Natural medicine is diverse, and in this case I would like to tell you about an ancient medicine that has been disappearing for two reasons (the first is that the elderly who made this remedy have been dying, the second is that the snake "machacaca" apparently it has been disappearing with them) I speak to them of "rum of machacaca or blind serpent". I had the privilege of mentioning this remedy made and used by my grandfather and by a few elderly people in my community, in the survival challenge of @naturalmedicine and today I am going to tell you a little more about him.

Blind snake rum

In the farmhouse where I live, several years ago lived elderly people who had skills to relieve or heal some disease with plants, they could make concoctions to give fertility to women and men, some could heal only with the smoke of the tobacco plant, they prayed the womb discomforts and the stomach hernias disappearing, but if it was a muscle ailment or fractured bones, they spoke of "machaca" rum or blind snake.

Liquor of "machacaca" or blind snake

Blind snake rum as part of aboriginal medicine has a secret to achieve a more effective effect, although anyone with much faith can perform this natural medicine, the elders of my community prayed to the liquor to achieve greater healing power. This liquor contains, half a liter of hot water or fermented sugarcane rum and a snake "machacaca" in some other places is also known as blindworm, blind snake, morrona, or black blind viper. This snake liquor also serves as a base remedy to which are added plants such as zarrapia, garlic, ginger, carob and others and is used to relieve pain, bumps, sprains and to enhance the sexuality of man.

Use of rum "machacaca"

The snake rum is used mainly to treat any type of fracture, the elderly sent the person to take the snake rum and also applied it with small massages in the affected area, it is used in case of pain or muscle tearing, blows, kinks, headache, migraine, waist pain, inflammation of varicose veins, joint pains (wrists, elbows, fingers, feet, knees), throat inflammation and arthritis.

Preparation and application of blind snake rum

For this preparation it is necessary to obtain a snake "machacaca", and a bottle of fermented sugarcane liquor, place the snake in the container with half a liter of liquor and leave in the sun and serene for 30 days in a row before using. To use, you can take the liquid in a small spoonful in the first hours of the morning for about 2 weeks, or you can apply it in the affected area that you want to treat and in case of inflamed tonsils you can gargle.

The power of the plants is as great as the love of God, and how they intercede before man to heal. My eyes can attest to that, in my scarce 29 years of life I have seen the power of aboriginal natural medicine through my grandfather, uncles and elders who lived in my community and have passed away, people who have cured spiritually and with plants, and that nowadays these types of cures are almost never done because these beliefs have been lost.

We must transmit that message of natural healing, it is up to us to preserve and anchor more than ever our ancestral roots for the benefit of future generations, natural medicine is part of our lives, from the herb tea that our grandmother prepared for us with love, even the compresses of leaves that our parents placed on us if we fell to the ground and hurt our legs. Natural medicine is accessible, powerful and never depletes.

Thank you for sharing more about this interesting medicine from your town and region! Why do you think the snake is decreasing in numbers? Habitat loss or overharvesting of it? I love to learn about old remedies like this. Sounds like a very “warning” remedy. You said one of the names is “viper”- does this snake contain poison? So glad you’re a part of @naturalmedicine!

Thank you very much for your interest @mountainjewel, well I must tell you that the snake "machacaca" or blind has been losing its natural habitat in my community, part that is a snake difficult to find because it digs tunnels where it is hidden, it is called blind because he does not see by day and uses his natural sensors. There is a belief that they went away when the elders began to die.
It is a completely harmless snake, it is not poisonous, it resembles rather a huge earthworm, although in other states and places it is also known as a blind vivara.

Interesting. So no one is carrying on the legacy of this particular medicine? Is this type of medicine as a whole dying out in your community? You obviously are interested!

Yes friend, in fact this kind of natural medicine is almost not practiced, the few people who have their bottle with the snake only get more liquor from sugarcane and continue using it.
