Is Steemit the next Myspace?
Myspace was WAY cooler than Facebook..
I remember when Myspace came out, being able to literally design your own page!
(Which was a big upgrade from AIM or Yahoo Messenger chat rooms/profiles.)
On Myspace you could customize anything your imagination could come up with.. From your background image, to music that played automatically, and even custom size images and links on your page!
To this day no other popular social network is as cool as Myspace was..
One thing I remember as a musician on Myspace was an awesome feature that allowed you to search for musicians by genre AND radius (from any zip code), and this was awesome!! But quickly disappeared around the same time Facebook took over and people got lazy when it came to their social profiles.
I take a look around Steemit, and I see so much potential.
But I see so many features being passed up that would be GREAT for Steemit, and I wonder is this why Myspace died?
I will tell you in the early days of Steemit we had a lot more features that we do not have now.
For example..
This GIF would have played from the main page before clicking on any posts.
And there was other things like..
- Unlimited tags
- Payouts in 24 hours
- A LOT less spamming
Now some say it was TOO much, and led to a lot of click bait, and really it made the trending page look more like the next big online casino!
But still if you wanted to portray an emotion or something dramatic it really helped..
However I think that this is something the Steemit team focuses on.. The best USER experience!
Conclusion
The reason Facebook took over Myspace was because of the community, and everyone finding a place to share and grow with old and new friends.
Steemit is that, and is becoming more and more an inspiring community of great people with great ideas!
Even though we may not have EVERY feature that Snapchat or Facebook has doesn't mean that we aren't still a great community with great potential..
I just think it will take some time to integrate the newer technologies with blockchain to create the best experiences possible!

There really is a certain “early internet” vibe about the place. The unique concept of the site also lends itself to a mainly positive audience... something I’ve not seen on the net for over a decade!
It’ll be interesting to see how things grow over time and if it’ll become a prospect for content producers to find a home on. It’s why I’m here.
I agree.. Ever since we had less than 1000 users last summer everyone has always said they loved Steemit compared to Facebook because everyone here is so positive and supportive, which the opposite can be said about Facebook (which some claim has a negative vibe).
I am ok with Facebook. It’s kind of what you make of it and I keep it to friends, family and few others. It’s Twitter that is the unmitigated mess right now. Can get really soul crushing over there.
yooo my space was my shit !
That is basically how i got started in what i currently do now ;
I help other people build websites or facebook pages and they set it up for their own business or something they do in their spare time .
Its great work but i used to get paid to help build other peoples myspace - and it has evolved so much from there, after myspace got killed off by facebook i started looking for new ways to make money using different methods online .
And HERE WE ARE !
hahaha its been an amazing run for all kinds of social media platforms .
Maybe steemit will KILL FACEBOOK !!!!
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME !
Yeah I remember hearing Justin Timberlake bought Myspace and I had a lot of hope thinking it was going to be the next game changing Social Music platform, but like you said Facebook took over and here we are.. But I am ready to see what things like dlive, dtube, dsound, steepshot, and the others can really do!
yeah i heard a lot of good things about Dtube ; less censorship and what not - good for everyone so long as people use it correctly . like some of the children channels on youtube are essentially pedophilia related crap - ive seen some crazy stories about some channels with content like that ; with millions of views .
So long as people use the internet for the right motives and intentions - it can be a fantastic place for anything and anyone . although people like to get competitive .
I truly wonder what happened of myspace after justin baught it ; he wouldnt have just let it die - he is probably using it some way or another .
It was like a musician/artist social sharing network when he changed it, with limited hosting functions, but honestly I couldn't tell you.. Maybe I'll check it out now and see if there is still a pulse.

Myspace landing page..

I didn't use a lot of MySpace, so might not be able to relate to the comparison but you bring about a vital point - businesses need to keep inventing and understanding what the end-user wants or run the risk of losing out to competition. I have been trying to get a few mates to sign up on Steemit and when they do, the first thing they tell me is, it looks more difficult to use than other Social media. Now, some might call this an ecosystem but at this early a stage for a user, it's easier to explain that Steemit is a social media site and it makes it tougher then for them to understand why it's not as easy to, say, post a picture?
There are dozens of companies already developing a blockchain social media with all the features of FB... steem needs to change fast before its to late
Yeah I have heard of Akasha, Yours.network, and Faceblock, but no one really has the community Steemit has so I think that is where Smart Media Tokens will bring value back to STEEM.. which will flow back into Steem Power, and initially back into upvotes/payouts! So we just gotta wait and see :D
Akasha sounds intriguing but I believe it is download to use? Or at least it will be for the time being. That’s going to be a barrier to adoption in the early days until it can let people hammer out content on their phones.
All ideas are good and I love to see them. Content will be king though and that is where it will all live and die.
