The Story Behind My Steemit Handle

in #mynameiswhat6 years ago (edited)

I realize not many people have asked me about my Steemit handle, @happycrazycon, except for @zord189. Maybe it is because he is frequently asked by others because of his Power Ranger's implication, haha.

@happycrazycon is an old username/nickname I have since I was 13 years old, actually. It was a name I chose at the moment of a decision for a username for my first ever email. I remembered I did not even have a computer back then, but I had good friends who did. So one of my girl friends asked me if I wanted her to help me create my first email ever. I thought it could be cool to have an email then since it was the hype back then together with the ICQ and mIRC accounts! (Yeah, those were the days!) Both of us put our heads together and finally, I picked happycrazycon, don't you think this name sounds very young and innocent? That's because it was created nearly 20 years ago. Sometimes, I do feel a bit shy when I have to introduce myself as happycrazycon at any Steemit meetups, for real!

So, WHY @happycrazycon?

Happycrazycon is made up of happy, crazy, and con. Con is basically the shorter name of my real name, Connie. It is my given name since birth and it is also in my birth cert. Honestly, I didn't like this name given by my parents at first, because oddly, all of my other 3 siblings' names start with "A", and I am the only one with the "C". Later, I found out the meaning of my name. Connie, which is usually the shorter name for Constance or Cornelia, means steadfast and constant, which are the qualities I sort of lacking but my name is always proclaiming me as that, yabedabedoooooo!!!

When I was in my primary school, I was very nerdy and did not know how to have fun. My life was basically all about studying and having tuition classes. I know many people said I did not have a life. I was a top student back then in my school, representing school in some academic competitions and also speech or story telling competition. I did not interact much with my peers and I felt many people did not like me. I changed school when I was in my last year of primary school and my whole personality changed. I got to know a new bunch of friends and I learnt to open up more. So much so that maybe when I was in my first and second year of high school, I was too talkative and "crazy". Some people said I was much happier but crazier. Teachers complained about me and my new classmates categorized me as hyperactive, non-stop doing sign languages in class. I hit a point when fear had no grip of me and I was just very free. Some of my older friends still call me happycrazycon till today. I too kind of miss that youthful vibrant me.

Anyway, back to my Steemit handle.

I guess it was in my subconscious mind that when I was registering my Steemit account, I chose @happycrazycon as my handle. Later on, I realized most of those that I know use their real names, so I tried to change it to something with my name initials but I could not. Haha do I regret? Hmm, I was embarrassed at first, honestly. However, I tend to like my handle more day by day. It reminisces me of my brave and non-hesitant, non-apologetic but dare-to-move days! My conclusion is, I will keep @happycrazycon and would not change it for another name. It may sound a bit 'childish' since it was created some near 20 years ago, but I like it! :P

With this, it reminds me of a song called Dare You to Move, originally by Switchfoot but it has a famous cover from Jayesslee:

There were a few different people who actually prophesied over me that I have a youthful spirit, even as I age more and more. I want to believe in that and as I write this post today, I remind myself of those prophesies again. I embrace my aging process and I also believe in the youthful spirit which will keep me robust and lively!

My issue isn't about physical aging; my issue is about wanting to remain vigorous and youthful in my spirit. Rob Lowe

Thank you for the kind words, @Alimamasstory :) good story on your handle as well!

That's a long story. I mean there is a history behind your name @happycrazycon :)
Thank you for sharing that!

@rezoanulvibes, thanks for reading my story! :)

Honestly, I didn't even think of this until I saw your post. 'Steemit-handle', your story is an interesting one.

Haha thanks @floxycool, glad you like the story! :)

I can relate to so much of this! My first username for an email address was, if I remember correctly, shortyness2005. I'm of average height but several of my classmates were taller than me so they called me 'Shorty', and 2005 is the year I graduated from high school. Obviously, this name did not stick with me because it really is too childish. I like happycrazycon though. It doesn't strike me as childish, but I can definitely relate to your feelings upon realizing most people use their real names as their Steemit-handle. I very much felt the same way. The thing that made me feel better is that there are several whales who do not use their real name as their handle. :-)
Also, you have a wonderfully honest way of blogging. Very nice to read.

Wow this reply warmed my heart soooo much, thanks a lot @queenvick!!! 💝

Thanks for liking my handle Hahahahahaha and for all the encouraging words for my style of writing too. You are such an encouragement :) I never take notice about the whale names but you highlighted it to me. I will take note.
