Fishing from a boat on the eve of freezing is an extreme activity. I had to be on the Volga several times at such a time. Sometimes it happened that the channel of the river itself was still free, and ice was already standing in the bays, and on this ice the fishermen were sitting))).
Such weather conditions impose certain requirements on your equipment, training gear and the boat itself with all its electronic stuffing.
I have already told more than once about clothes for fishing from a boat in the cold, so I will not repeat. On the gear I will say a few words. On good somewhere in late September, before the onset of cold weather, it is worth changing the lubricant in the reel to a more liquid one, which is conventionally winter and allows the reel mechanism to work easily and smoothly. Greater grease in the cold freezes even more, and the reel can be turned only with a noticeable effort. And the grease caught in the overrunning clutch of the reel (mechanism responsible for the instantaneous reverse stopper) can cause the failure of this part during freezing, which is fraught with a turn of the reel on hooking or pulling out the fish in the opposite direction.
It will also be necessary to process the cord, roller of the reel and the rod rings with silicone spray or any neutral oil.

Go fishing, if your boat has an electronic start of the engine, sounder and other electronics, you need only with fully charged batteries. In the summer we quietly do without recharging our batteries for 2-3 days. In a cold it is necessary to make their charging daily. Discharge of the battery on the water and the inability to run the main motor-adventure is bad and without assistance tug here will not go... Even better to insure and put in the boat reserve, fully charged, battery. If the echo sounder and electric motor stop working, you can do without them. After all, you can be a little bit like the main motor and recharge the service banks from it. What if the main engine doesn't start? (((
