.460 Rowland upgrade to Glock 21 Anniversary Gift

in #myhuntingfishing6 years ago

My lovely wife just bought me the .460 Rowland conversion kit (and Vortex Venom) to upgrade my Glock 21 for our 10th anniversary. Those thinking 10mm for hunting may want to give this a look instead. Nearly double the muzzle energy of 10mm, and should be even less recoil with the compensator. See the Ballistics power comparison attached. The .460 Rowland loads are more powerful than all but two of the factory .44 Magnum loads I found. Now just to add the Talon grips, and get the slide milled for the Vortex. I'm thinking upgrading a Sig 320 may be the next candidate for this.

The .460 Rowland® Conversion is a barrel conversion for your lightweight, easy to carry, high-capacity semiautomatic .45 ACP Pistol which enables you to shoot the Mighty .460 Rowland® round. You’ll get half the recoil and muzzle flip you might expect from a .44 Magnum revolver.

The .460 Rowland® cartridge is a .45 caliber round delivering TRUE .44 MAGNUM POWER from your Converted .45 ACP pistol.
We send a 185gr JHP bullet downrange at 1575 fps with over 1,000 lbs of muzzle energy!
We have as well a 230gr JHP, a 255gr Hard Cast Lead FP round, a beastly 240gr Magnum and the All-Copper and truly devastating 200gr Extreme Penetrator….which does exactly that. Even in lead-free California.

How does it do this?
The .460 Rowland® cartridge is a true .45 ACP round. The casing is 1/16” longer than standard .45 ACP brass so that it will not chamber in a gun that has not been converted. Stronger springs and compensator help absorb the extra recoil.

...and you can still shoot regular .45's through it without changing barrels or magazines back. Can also reload with standard .45 dies. (Just adjust the seating depth and use the longer brass).

You should use a Tripod and a smartphone to film yourself shooting. It looks badass in slow-mo. However, I advise getting professional guidance if you want blastic footage

Very nice. Love the video. The concussion from those 50's will beat you up shooting though! I'll stick with my .338 Lapua Magnum that I can shoot all day long.

Nice looking handgun @ksteem! You should be proud.

Tell me, you mention hunting...Are you able to hunt with handguns up there? It is illegal here in Australia.

Oh yes, It's a good shooter. It will look better once I get the slide milled for the red dot and put the Talon rubber grips on. I think the dovetail sight adapter mount is a little high and looks a little kludgy. I believe in pretty much every state allows handgun hunting here. There are specific firearms seasons, and most also have minimum caliber restrictions for large game. I can't think of any that restrict on handgun vs. rifle, as long as minimum caliber is met. Someone may correct me, but if so, it could only be one or two. Of course there is additional hassle in the form of background checks, etc. for purchasing handguns here, but if you can legally own one, you can generally hunt with it.

Hmm, interesting. Here if a person was to be caught hunting with a handgun they would be in a lot of trouble. It's a federal offence.

I use my handguns for competition/sporting shooting. IPSC mainly.

It's very common for people to hunt squirrels, rabbits, and other small game here with .22 pistols and such. Also very common for folks here to carry large caliber pistols into the woods when camping or hiking for self-defense of Bears, Mountain Lions, and Coyotes.

Certainly wouldn't want to be hunting deer or large game with a 9mm, but many pistols can shoot rifle calibers, just with shorter barrel and slight loss of velocity. Doesn't make much technical sense to restrict pistol just because pistol. I certainly agree with minimum caliber and power ratings to ensure a clean, humane kill. I don't really hunt anymore, but still love to target shoot. Guess I won't be moving there anytime soon!
