The shot below is in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. In the photo are the United States lightship Chesapeake and the USS Torsk, a WWII era submarine. They sit along the docks in front of the National Aquarium at Baltimore.

Think of a lightship as a mobile floating lighthouse, with a 30,000 candela power light to help guide ships in from sea. The Chesapeake was stationed in locations such as off the coast of Cape Cod, and the mouth of the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays.

The USS Torsk patrolled of the coast of Japan in WWII and had the distinction of sinking the last ship of the war. Both ships are open for tours by the public. If you are in the harbor visiting the National Aquarium, these ships are worth a visit also.
