My California ~ A Wednesday Walk at Malibu Creek Park
#MyCalifornia is a weekly contest curated by @socalsteemit to allow Steemians in California to show off an aspect of their state. #WednesdayWalk is a weekly challenge created by @tattoodjay to encourage people to get out and take a walk and share what they see. This week, I'm mashing them up.
My wife and I took a walk at Malibu Creek State park, which is located about 25 miles north of Los Angeles near the Santa Monica Mountains. The creek runs down to the Malibu Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean.
Wildflowers are in bloom in California, and the recent rains have actually made it a "super bloom." Malibu Creek Park isn't blessed with the massive fields that you might see on the news, but we did get to see some poppies and lupine.
The rains brought lots of green grass too, and contributed to recovery of some of the areas that were burned in the Woolsey Fire last November.
Sadly, I don't think this guy is gonna make it.
Even here, while hikers stopped to admire the new growth on burned tree limbs, I think that's actually mistletoe, a parasite on the oak trees.
Like I said, the wildflowers weren't as plentiful as some of the other areas in California, but there were a few fields of flowers.
Besides the "super bloom" of flowers, Southern California also happened to be experiencing a massive butterfly migration, so we saw lots of them too. Not many stayed still enough for a photo though.
You might have seen Malibu Creek State Park before, in movies or on TV.
Well, that's my #WednesdayWalk and #MyCalifornia. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you :-)

Thanks! I meant that the burned tree is not coming back. I should have added “make me smile,” but I ran out of time and had to rush to work.
Cool mashup of both the challenges. What a lovely day it must be! Happy for you in California.
